Reason 4.0
Hi y'all.
I'm JUST getting into home recording (I'm starting to do some televsion work). I'm running DP6 on a standard Macbook and thinking about buying a copy of Reason in an effort to start putting some better drum sounds together.
I read through some older threads that made me feel like Reason 4.0 and DP6 work well together.
1. Has anyone encountered any serious problems between the two?
2. Which version makes the most sense -- Rhythm Combo, Studio Combo, or Premium?
Any advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Works like a charm here.
As far as which version goes, depends on what else you own.
If you are after a collection of instruments, consider Native Instrument's Komplete 5 or iK Multimedia's Total Workstation. Both are on sale for some insane prices pre-NAMM.
Cheers and good luck.

I really have nothing, apart from the virtual instruments DP has to offer.
I'll investigate both of your suggestions.
Thanks!

Re: Reason 4.0
I have Reason 4 and Rhythm Combo. Never had a problem with DP. There are some good bass sounds and multichannel drums are very tweakable. Remember that Reason will eat your CPU along with DP especially when it is loaded with big mutichannel bass and drum patches. BUT since they are two separate processes, you will get more even CPU load comparing to the plugins.

Reason is one of the most stable program I ever owned. Never had a Reason related problem with DP and I've had it since Reason 2

Re: Reason 4.0
Reason comes with a complete basic sound set. Many instruments for any basic sketch IMHO.
Rhythm Combo, Studio Combo and Premium are add-on libraries.
BTW, Reason is extremely stable and very low on CPU.

Re: Reason 4.0
NOT on PPC. Propellerheads gave up code optimization for PowerPC processors in Reason 4 on Leopard due to unknown peculiarities of the OS. Still it is very efficient, but big projects just don't work due overloads. I have one such a demo project on my PC. Saying that, DP is not an efficient plugin host either, so you are better off with Reason anyway. As an instrument via Rewire it is much more lightweight.daniel.sneed wrote: BTW, Reason is ... very low on CPU.

Re: Reason 4.0
I have Reason 3 which is great, and I'd like to ask a question about Reason 4.....
How does the Reason 4 compare to Reason 3? How's the new synth? Anything else you like enough about the new version to mention? Thanks, Fred

New synth is Great.
If you only use Rsn as a softsynth most of the improvements won't mean anything to you...

Re: Reason 4.0
Reason 4.0 runs perfectly on my PPC. Thor is a very powerfull synth once you get under the hood.

I should have said this first : I only use Reason in DP thru Rewire.

Re: Reason 4.0
Are the drums that come with the basic Reason 4 package substantial or would y'all recommend the Drum Refill?

Re: Reason 4.0
It depends on what kind of drum sounds you want. If you want tight electronic type of kits then the basic Reason stuff is fine. If you want over the top "real" sounding stuff then I think you'll want the add on.
On another note, if it were me I'd rather have everything in one app to start. You'll be going back and forth between Reason and DP a lot. Reason is definitely a great program but if you want to keep things simple at first then I'd say just get a good multipurpose VI that runs within DP so you can stay in DP. With Reason you have options to sequence in Reason or just trigger it as an external VI and do your sequencing in DP. Anyway, you'll have to figure that out. If you're on the fence download the Reason 4 demo and give it a whirl and judge for yourself! I think you can download some various VIs to demo that run within DP to see if you like that idea better such as Sample Tank, Plugsound Pro (http://www.ultimatesoundbank.com/) or Yellow Tools (to name a few). As much as I love Reason I never really use it only because I have so many other options within DP, but that's from years of investing in things.
Finally, there are some great Reason tutorials that you can rent at grooveboxmusic.com to get you up to speed.
