Updated: original 896 fix - download 3.6.7.4 drivers here

Post by yeahimsteve »

Hey all,

If you are an owner of the original motu 896 (not 896hd or 896mk3), then you have noticed that when you try to install the new drivers from motu's site (3.6.x.xx), your motu will freeze on you and doesn't work at all.

Although many of you know by now to use an older driver, finding the perfect older driver can be somewhat of a burden. Especially because Motu doesn't post this on their site anymore, so basically, if you have the original 896 and you expect to get the driver from motu's site.....good luck.

This is why I'm here; to post a link to a good working driver to use in either Vista or XP for the original 896. You'll want to use driver 3.6.7.4, as this driver came out at the beginning of the year and works the best out of all the other drivers I've tried. Anyway, here's a link to where you can download the 3.6.7.4 driver:

http://www.youshare.com/yeahimsteve/1ac ... 5.rar.html

Click the link, then click the grey download box on the page that opens. If the link breaks, send me an email and I will send you the file or a new link.

Hopefully, motu will address this issue soon.

Re: Fix for original 896 owners who cant use new driver

YES! THANK YOU!!!!

I do not have the 896. I have an 896 hd and an a pre. The newest drivers have (mk III) have a call to dsp hardware that is not applicable to earier hardware. Though it works with my interfaces it doubles the latency. This driver version (v3.6.7.4) does away with it, and I don't need the fancy new look of the interface to boot.

I've put in a tech note request a couple weeks ago and have gotten no response. And the phone line at MOTU is busy constantly.

I'm downloading this as I type and will install it later today.

I'm hoping MOTU sees fit to add links to older versions. In my case, all I was trying to do was install the MIDI drivers when I added the 8pre but it put on the whole kittancaboodle.

file link point to a MOTU download that is only 15 meg large. I've been told it should be 24 meg or so. Installing this on my system only allows WDM drivers to work: no ASIO. The choice is there but nothing works. Can anyone confirm?

I fixed the broken link with an upload that I can control.

Finding 3.6.7.4 drivers to download these days is hard, but shouldn't be anymore.

Btw, to answer the question above, the ASIO drivers are included in here, don't worry. These are the only motu drivers you need if you are running older hardware, and want the lowest latency (the newer drivers added more latency).
