Automation Troubles

So I'm trying to use DP with NI Kore 2 and, at the moment, Massive... and I'm having trouble automating parameters. How frustrating.

I'll say, ok, lets record automation, and I'll twist and press the Kore controls and.. it'll record automation data, but then when I go to play it back, it will not play back the automation. And very strangely, sometimes it'll record the automation data for the wrong controls.. So for instance.. In Kore I'll have a page I'm controlling that's that macro controls for a given instrument.. Loaded into the same Kore patch will also be some insert effects... and though while recording I'm controlling the macros.. In DP it shows up as stuff for the insert effect... and no.. the insert effect automation data will not automate the insert effects parameters even then.

Ok, fine.. So then I go to the Instrument channel in the DP sequencer view and I'll pick Insert: Massive, at which point the dialog box comes up with all your automate-able parameters and I'll pick one, and draw some automation stuff.. and again it doesn't automate.

The only way I've been able to get automation to work is via MIDI.. pick a controller channel.. draw some stuff, hit MIDI learn on the appropriate synth parameter, and all is groovy in the world.

Of course the trouble is I'm not in love with MIDI resolution.. and.. well I guess I'm new enough to DP that I might just not know the right way to go about things.. but I always feel like I'm fighting the MIDI automation sequencer view thing.. to try and make what I want to happen happen.. and its kind of a pain to have to go through this kind of a process in order to get all the parameters learned that I want learned.. for each instrument... Hell, its a pain for just one instrument!

It seems to me that I've automated lots of stuff in the past without any trouble.. I've gone through the manuals without being able to figure it out.. wondering if anybody knows what's up with all this.. and thanks of course.
