Expert Mode on Laptop

I've got Mach5 2.02 running on a G4 ppc laptop in stand alone mode. For the most part it does what I need, but when I try to use expert mode, it won't accept MIDI controller input....when I double-click on a key-range it turns red for an instant then opens up a little text entry window instead of taking a MIDI note. The text entry window only accepts MIDI note numbers. Even after getting through that, the expert mode settings on the laptop work badly at best. I know this because I set up the same exact performance bank on my G5 power mac tower with Mch5 2.02 operating as a ProTools plug-in and it works like a charm.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
