Possible stuck notes with BassLine VI.
No one has responded to this part yet, so I thought it worthy of its own thread....
Try this. Record a short track with the Analog> PM Finger Bass preset. Play back your track to listen to it. Now drag the wiper with audible mode active. Now play back your track again. Does it seem like there is stuck note? Something gets hosed. Happens with other presets too, but I was mainly working w/ PM Finger Bass preset. Once things get hosed like this, it happens w/ any preset. The only way I can find to fix it is to deinstantiate and reinstantiate BassLine.
I haven't had stuck notes or used BassLine much in the past so I can't be sure what to call this (maybe it's not stuck notes), but it definitely seems like a bug. It's not that the note continues to sound like a car horn that won't stop (that is what I would call a stuck note). It's like the last note sounded when I dragged the wiper never received a note off. So when I now play the mono BassLine instrument, every time I release a note it's like that "stuck" (never got a note off) note is being held down. Say the note is C3. It's like every note I play is now followed by a C3. 100% reproducible. Can someone check this out?
Steps to reproduce:
1. Record a track w/ BassLine
2. Drag wiper over track w/ audible mode active.
3. Play notes in BassLine.
4. Now every note you play is followed by whatever was the last note to sound when you dragged the wiper.
Thanks,
Babz

Re: Possible stuck notes with BassLine VI.
Yeah, I can make this happen w/ DP 6.01. After you scrub through the notes in audible mode and then play the sequence again, unexpected note on messages are being transmitted with every expected note off message. You can "fix" it by disabling and then re-enabling the instrument track. Opening and closing the Configure Hardware Driver window would probably also fix it.
The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.
DEFINITE DP6 BUG: Stuck notes with BassLine VI.
Thanks for confirming, 1nput0utput! I have also done some further tests myself. I tested in DP 5 and no problem. I tested again in DP 6 and it was 100% reproducible.
I guess MOTU should be notified directly about this confirmed bug.

FYI - I finally got a reply from MOTU on this saying that they WERE able to reproduce the bug and are looking into a solution.

Hey thanks babz. I just saw this post for the first time, but I've been having some stuck note problems as well. Glad to hear they're working on it.

Re: Possible stuck notes with BassLine VI.
Just to clarify, Phil, this is ONLY related to this one VI, and it's not really a stuck notes problem in the sense of a note that won't stop playing (like a broken car horn). This is more like a note that sounds right after you play a note. Not really a showstopper since there are lots of other solutions for a synth bass. But at least we know that they can reproduce it and hopefully it will be fixed in the next update.

In the voice of Emily Litella - Oh, that's different. Never mind.
Thanks anyway babz.

Same problem here.
Seems like as soon as I start dragging the Wiper around, it screws up.. So far it only happens to the Bassline.
It's as if the Bassline wont forget about certain notes based on *something* ...I've switched it to be controlled by a different MIDI track, but that made no difference. It's like the problem is taking place within the virtual instrument itself.
Very Annoying.

Re: Possible stuck notes with BassLine VI.
About the weird extra-note thing,
I did some of the things on this thread:
http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtop ... &sk=t&sd=a
Mainly, I killed other apps, and used Activity Monitor to kill the Dashboard,
I turned off Meters in the Mixer
Shut down my Meter Bridge (unchecked everything so it's blank)
Maybe a few other things too that I don't remember right now..
But my Processor meter is staying really low, and I haven't had the weird extra-invisible-sustained-note problem in quite a while. Maybe this only happens when the CPU is maxed?
At any rate, I recommend everyone read as much as they can stand to of the tips on the thread linked to above. Some of these things aren't that obvious.
OH!!
"Automatically detect beats" etc... by default that is on... go read the "tips for not crashing" thread. So far it seems that going easy on the processor also helps with the stupid Bassline phantom sustaining note thing too. I will update if I learn anything new.
Peace

Re: Possible stuck notes with BassLine VI.
I'm getting stuck notes with two VIs and simply click the record enable on and off and it stops. But still, what the...?

Re: Possible stuck notes with BassLine VI.
I can't believe how stuck MIDI notes are always a huge problem, release after release. MOTU started the whole programming MIDI on a Mac WORLD. Year after year, I have been having random stuck MIDI notes problems. Sometimes, the problem goes away, as if by itself--though I know that not the real truth of the matter--and then comes back. Almost always with a new release, this problem resurfaces. right this moment, I was about to render a MIDI track to audio for a song, and two notes--TWO NOTES!--refuse to stop playing and end where they end. ALL other notes on ALL tracks, are playing correctly. I rebooted, including my keyboard, and it's still doing it. I trashed my preferences, and it's still doing it. I don't have any accidental CC's going on either. Just Saturday, this track was playing fine. I did not touch my rig until just now. What changed??!!
This is becoming impossible for me to deal with, since I make my living using MIDI. Other DAW solutions are starting to look more attractive, even though I've been using DP since it was invented. I'm losing all faith. Solutions never seem to come.

Re: Possible stuck notes with BassLine VI.
I share your frustration . I moved to DP from Opcode when they went under and I have had random stuck MIDI notes ever since. I wish they would fix it.It seems so basic.
