Problems with external MIDI gear (synth)

I have a MOTU Ultralite that works perfectly except for when it comes to some MIDI operations.

I have a JP-8080, it's hooked up to my Ultralite via MIDI and when I'm using either Ableton Live or Sonar to send MIDI notes to it my CPU use goes way up and I get spikes and the sound stutters and such. I've tried a lot of tips... nothing helps.

I am now looking for older drivers and trying to roll back and see if that helps, but I can only find new ones. Anyone got some older ones or know where to find them?

I'm running Windows XP 32 bit.
