New Mac Pro now DP6 won't open New or Old sessions?? Help.

Post by csiaudio »

Hi,

Just got my Mac Pro Desktop yesterday (Dual Quad 3.0) now DP6 won't open a new or old session. The error that I am getting is as follows:

An error occurred while writing to the disk. The file (file name) was not saved.
The file was created in a later version of Digital Performer and cannot be opened in this version. Try to save your file on another disk or folder, or with a different name.

Ok, so I tossed the DP preferences, that didn't help. Rescanned Plugins. I uninstalled and reinstalled DP6 that didn't help. I ran disk utility before I tried anything and after. I tried saving the new session to the desktop, an external drive and same error. Now when I received the new computer I used the Migrate feature to transfer everything from my G5. I updated the OS to 10.5.4 using the Combo update. I updated everything else as well. I updated my RME to the Intel drivers, I reinstalled my Powercore plugs. I tried removing the VST & Component plugs out of the Audio/Plugins folder and launch DP.

Now, the word that I have a question on in that error is 'later' does that mean 'previous' version or 'older' as in a newer 'later' version...bad lingo on MOTU's part.

Pro Tools and Logic 8 are working just fine.

So you geniuses out there...any suggestions?

Thanks.

Wow. I just read the link at MOTU. I can't imagine how anyone would find out how to do that without that link.

From Finland to Indiana. How cool is that! Indeed, thanks, jarok!

Wow, good one. I haven't had that problem, but it's good to know about that fix. I always repair my permissions before and after an install, maybe that helps prevent the problem.

Hi -

Same problem here, and I have tried trashing the invisible auths, repairing permissions, reinstalling, and repairing prebindings with Onyx, all with no results. DP continues to exhibit the "created in a newer version" error, even while trying to create a new session in DP6. Any next-level ideas?

Thanks,

Hi Folks -

Still hashing this out with MOTU tech support, who reply only about once a week. Thank god I do my professional work in ProTools.
Anyway, I've done the following with no results : any other thoughts?

To remove Digital Performer 6's Authorization file under Leopard, go to Applications> Utilities and open the Terminal.
In the Terminal type cd /
Hit Return.
Next type: ls
Hit Return.
And then cut and paste the following text into the Terminal:
rm Auth-DigitalPerformer\ 6.0
Your Digital Performer 6 Authorization file should now be removed.
You should repair disk permissions at this point.
Go to Applications> Utilities> Disk Utility. Choose First Aid then highlight the hard drive that your operating system is installed on. Click Repair disk permissions. Restart your computer once this is complete.
Once your computer has restarted run the Digital Performer 6 installation disk again. Enter your name and keycode when prompted.

What is the contents of the first column? Should be "-rw-rw-rw-".

The permissions are the same as mine. The '@' sign indicates that the file has extended attributes. This is Leopard-only and I'm on Tiger (and it does not show any '@'). This may be the culprit but I have no way to check, sorry. You can experiment by deleting the file and run the authorization again. If this still shows up then probably it's ok and the problem is in something else.
