First recording session w/ DP6 (and CueMix)

Post by FutureLegends »

Hey!

Did the first serious recording session w/ DP6 today.
Just finished after almost 10 hours non-stop recording. Not a single crash. UI didn't bother me. Only weird thing was that the clip LEDs in the Audio Monitor window sometimes doesn't disappear when I click on them...

Today we first recorded 9 tracks of drums and 2 guide tracks (guitar vocals) simultaneously then we recorded upright bass on 2 tracks.

This was also the first recording since we sold our mixing console so the first that I had to rely on CueMix for... eh... cue control. Which was strange... I send my main/control room mix to out 1-2 on my 1296 and the studio foldback mix to 11-12...

But even if I mute ALL ins I still hear stuff! What's up with that?
Do the inputs always sound in it's corresponding out?
Only way to really shut things of is to mute the input itself but that ofcours mute the talents mix too... This is very irritating, lets say I just want to solo one input/mic then I hear other stuff too...
Just as I thought I had CueMix figured out... gah!

So everything worked fine today with DP6 only problem is the monitoring/cues... but that should be a CueMix problem (user error?). Had DP on Direct hardware playthrough...

cheers

Bit bummed about the cuemix thing though.
Maybe DP sends to the outs too when in Direct Hardware Playthrough mode? Overriding the mutes and faders in CueMix?

I need to be able to solo channels in my control room mix without it affecting the talents mix in the studio... How to do that I wonder???

Glad to hear the session went well. I had a good session with DP6 the other day myself. There are a few little bugs, but over all it looks like a winner. I figure by 6.02 we'll be golden.

Continued the recordings today... another 11 hours of constant use and zero crashes or hickups! So far so good!

Occasionally happens to me in DP5 too. When it happens there doesn't seem to be any way to clear the light, clicking, key command, even closing and opening the window again doesn't seem to work.

Good question, Gary.

Great news, FL. Thanks for the encouraging report.

We seem to be building a collection of positive reports now; the balance is on the way to being restored, it would seem.

AIFF 44.1/24 for some reason that's not really clear to myself ;-)

btw, wrapped up the recording part of the project today... about 7-8 hours... still no crash and no other weirdness... smooth sailing lalalala (gonna jinx it soon)

But it's not that huge, about 18-24 audiotracks per song, no VIs, no MIDI.

Gonna start mixing tomorrow.

cheers

W/No VI's that's likely gonna work pretty good. Seems we folk of previous projects really slam it when we bring big projects, editing and VI's. That's when the bears come out.

I read over on the Nuendo board of late them having broadcast wave incompatibilities when bouncing tracks. Maybe we should start checking it out in 6 for bugs. The thread claims recipients of downloads i.e. the clients can't convert to mp3 and or read the files in many places. Also when bouncing waves projects Nuendo creates BWF instead.

Interesting... Maybe worth a checkout here in DP6. ya think?
