How is Quickeys working in DP6?

Post by Tripi »

I've had my DP6 box sitting here for two weeks now, and have been too swamped to install it. But, next week is my studio upgrade week, so I'll get to it soon.

Just wondering if anyone has had any trouble using pre-made Quickeys macros in DP6? From some of the screen shots I've seen, it looks like the mini menu is on the opposite side now. I have a feeling this is going to fubar my whole setup.

Any chance there are new key command options in DP6? I've always wished I had a key command to switch to the Spline tool. And anothre one for choosing which CC to edit in the graphic edit window (Expression, Volume, Modulation......)

thanx!

Frankly I haven't been able to get far enough into version 6 to even try my Quickeys stuff. Normally I'd be at the point of customizing by now. I still don't know where to find stuff, let alone customize it for Quickeys.

If I can hop on to v6 I'll try to check it out for you early this week. At the moment I am giving myself a few days to recover from the bumps on my head which are the result of banging it up against the MOTU Wall of Shame (in a futile attempt to understand the GUI).

My QK routines for DP 5.13 work perfectly for DP6. Of course, you have to update the scope so that QK knows to apply those routines to the new version. That takes all of about 10 seconds to do. My color-scheme changes all still work exactly as before, as do my window sets. I would guess that there are going to be a few routines that are broken, since the windows have changed so dramatically. I'd be surprised if my mini-menu shortcuts still work, as they were difficult to create in the first place, and required tedious tweaking to get right. Now that those mini-menus aren't even in the same place anymore, I'm guessing I'll have to rebuild those. They may be easier now, what with Cocoa windows and all. I don't know; I haven't tried that.

But the general menu-based shortcuts still work as always.

Just in case anyone cares.......... my quickeys ain't happening in 6. So much of what goes on with them involves the minimenu. Couldn't MOTU at least keep the minimenu on the same side of the windows? Those new window borders are screwing with me too. I guess it will take a day to sit down and reprogram them all. At least my key commands all work still.

Yeah, we're screwed with the mini-menus. Maybe they'll be easier to program, now. There was an element of surprise in the old ones. Seems like I had to offset all those by about 60 pixels or something. I forget now. But it took a while to get them working. I'm hoping they'll be easier to program now. (hope, hope, hope... ) we'll see.

Hey Sushi - I just noticed that you have Logic 8 in your sig at the bottom. I use it too...... but don't think I could ever fess up to it in public. er... like I just did. Remember the rumor that Apple was trying to buy DP before they approached the Logic guys? Can you imagine how much different DP6 would look if Apple did get their hands on it? Minimenus would be a relic of the past for sure.

Yeah, Logic's my little backup. I used to go to it a lot when DP would misbehave. I have now not opened Logic in about 6 months. Needless to say, DP 5.13 and now DP6 have been working wonderfully. (though I'm not very deeply into DP6 yet) Sometimes I wish Apple HAD bought DP. We might have made this transition from OS9 to NextStep UNIX a little faster. But after seeing how they have shaken up Logic again and again, I'm not so sure I'd want that for DP. I think MOTU's done a great job of keeping us happy with incremental steps. This one is the biggest yet, but we'll adjust. This is the first time DP has changed its look so drastically, going all the way back to the original Performer.

I think you're on the fence about joining the dark side....
