828 mk3 background noise

Post by majdid »

Hi,
i'm still setting up my 828 MK3 slowly. got it working fine yesterday with my second XP laptop, vista will simply hang out after few minutes of turning the 828 on.

anyway, tried it yesterday with headphones, sounded amazing... today, i got XLR to XLR male/female cables to connect to my main powered M-AUDIO bx5a monitors. i can now hear a strange background zzz noise. tought that something was wrong with the power sockets. removed and turned off everything, plugged only the monitors and the 828 in the same socket, still the same.

i noticed that when the monitors are on, cable connected to monitors and disconnected from the 828, the hum is not there. as soon as i plug the xlr into 828 outs and turn it on, it back again.

could you please advice? maybe it's a wrong cables choice. its actually GEBL high level microphone cables, XLR JACK - XLR PLUG, best thing i was able to find right now.

ps: never had this problem with 1/4 jacks and my previous M-Audio interface.

try a ground lift - could be ground loop noise.

If you can solder - break the Pin#1 connection inside one of the XLRs
