Watch the video displaying the new comping features on MOTU's site....watch how long it takes for the crossfade to process towards the end of the video....

yes, the time seems the same, but in comping track perhaps is not a valid comparison, this function there is not in DP5...
maybe the machine used for the demo is a powermac g4 whit 256 mb of ram...
maybe the video is not scrolling at real time... :? :?:
waiting for DP6.

Remember that was a beta version. Why not wait until the app is release to become afraid?

Don't ignore the other titles:

Some Day You'll Change Your Ways :) (A song for Nicky)
They Don't Know (a song about trolls and/or newbies)
I Don't Know Why (a newbie's lament)
Down on the Beach (a reprieve from being down on DP)
Crying Like a Baby Over You (a troll hunter's lament :) )
Mary Jane (Roll Your Own!)
What Good is Living (A troll hunter's lament - part 2)
How I Cry (when repair permissions takes forever and then does nothing)
I'm Gonna Make It Somehow (what a members sing after being bounced by James :) )
Subway Blues (5.1 LFE lament)
Can't Forget About You (a night of torment after being flamed - or bounced)
Something to Shout About (a celebration of DP 6 INSTALLED!)
It's Their World (a celebration of Pro Tools and Logic for the DP addict)

Boy, they sure knew how to write 'em in those days.

I just know how these things can go....MOTU has never really admitted or acknowledged the slow crossfade processing issue. It's not anywhere in the list of improvements. It looks slow in the video.

I will not be able to do big editing jobs with DP if this is still an issue.

The inability to use other plugins to do time stretching with is also now a deal breaker for me.

timestretching?

you mean it's not just me that thinks it sux!

i think even if you do try vocalign it's still the same algorithm - digital indeed!

I guess if you enable use external editor you could maybe break out to peak or something - I don't have it but I do use that technique with audio finder to do vary speed etc- faster than screwing around with speccy effects and it previews...

Ooo-wee- cowskunk.

I just saw a friend of mine's computer do a freak-out for the first time ever for him due to a sudden, intense, and very UGLY fade redraw that took a devastatingly long time to open when that particular project had previously and consistently opened quickly. All subsequent efforts to open this project have taken a very long time to load without exception-- 7 minutes or more-- audio-only, maybe 12 tracks. No VI's on a 2007 3G Quad.

If it's OSX that causes this, then hope for DP6 will be rooted at least in part on how well OSX will cooperate in this regard. But the MOTU vid doesn't help foster hope. I can only hope that the delay of DP6 has been due to such issues being fixed as best as they can be.

We could always just blame QuickTime, Hobby; it's almost always a safe bet IMHO.

I'm probably telling you something you already know. With the project closed, he can throw out the fades so they'll be rebuilt when he opens the project again. It takes a while for the rebuild but it usually works fine after that.

Creating x-fades is the only time DP 5.11 has ever crashed on me.
