The Mysterious Disappearing 2408

Post by duncan »

I've had a BLA modded 2408 running for at least a year now. I have a second unmodded 2408 that I only turn on when I need more adat outputs. (All these outputs go to a digital mixer.) So today, I started DP and the 2408 wouldn't show up. Turned it off, waited, turned it back on - same thing. The client is ready to record, the mics are up, and I'm getting nothing. Fortunately, I also have a HD24, so I recorded on that instead.

After the client left, I turned the 2408 on again - still nothing. The lights came on, but only the 'bounce' sign was lit, and the PCI Audio Console software window was blank. So I tried one more time, off, then on again - nothing. But this time I turned on the second 2408 and it booted up fine - when it booted up, the first one also booted up. (All three dialog things 'clock' and 'source' and 'bounce' are lit when the 2408 is communicating with the PCI card.) So now, the first one is working again, and the second one is turned off, as per usual. Very strange. Makes me wonder if I didn't have a second 2408 to wake up the first one, would the first one still be dead?

It's possible that a restart would have fixed it, or switching slots on the back of the PCI card. I've had to do that occasionally, when channels 7/8 gp funky on me. As much as I like, and depend on my motu stuff to keep my studio running (and keep paying clients happy) it's kind of scary when the gear goes on vacation while I'm working. My vacation isn't due till mid-september!
