So refreshing to hear a company honestly say that they are not adding new features, but sorting out (sorry, streamlining) their product. I for one will gladly pay for the update.

One of the other focus areas for "Snow Loepard" is size... Apple is going to
"Trim The Fat" and make OSX 10.6 "leaner", giving us back some Disk space. Way Cool
:D

For now, we can use programs such as Xslimmer or monolingual to trim a lot of fat.

So, I guess the current version of Leopard should be considered a pre-release or beta version. And what we'll be seeing in a year is the original planned, optimized version we should be getting as an update.

No. Re-read Apple press release. They will be making fundamental changes to the core OS to set the stage for features in the years to come. Primary will be switching as much of the system as possible to 64-bit. Hardy a Leopard tweak.

PPC support will likely be dropped, yes.

That's nothing. From '92 - '99 I used a Classic II (running Mastertrax Pro and Finale - obviously MIDI only) and from '99-2008 I used a G4 400 running DP. A couple months ago, I finally purchased a new computer - an iMac.

Far and away the best setup ever has been a tie between OS9.2(?) and DP 3.1 and my current setup, Leopard and DP5.x Both are basically flawless.

I come from the school where if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Best,

Matt

P.S. I also should add that I've been "running" Unicornation for years as well :D

This OS release is exactly what I was hoping Motu planned for the upcoming release of DP. A leaner, more efficient, more powerful program that doesn't focus so much on more bells and whistles.
Mac Pro Quad 2.66 5gigs ram, OSX.6.1, DP 7.02 Apogee ADX 16, Mytec DAC, Mackie MCU, MTP-AV, Stylus RMX, Ivory, EWQL, Plug Sound Pro, Mach V, Reason, MX4, Ethno-instrument, Virtual Guitarist2, Do I really need all this stuff? UAD-1,2, Waves L3, PSP, Altiverb, Neodynium, AT 5 various other plugz.

I say that new hardware deserves NEW software to take advantage of it. An 8 year old computers hardware isn't going to be able to keep up with the newer hardware technologies so I would rafther have an OS that can take advantage of the newest HW capabilities so if you have old HW how would updating to a newer OS going to be an advantage... It's not because the HW can't keep up. Time to buy a newer machine or just use the OS that works best IMHO.
