DP + Waves; MAS vs AU
Over at OSX Audio, in this thread Cerberus, who is a beta tester for Waves, says something about Waves using MAS because MOTU asked them to, rather than using AU. Now, those of us Waves DP users know how Waves plugins are basically useless if you run at a buffer less than 512. What I'm wondering, is why Waves can't run as AU. Cerberus says that DP has a faulty AU implementation. Any info here?

Re: DP + Waves; MAS vs AU
Some earlier DP's faulty AU implementation that I know of was that you can't call up and save AU preset.
Version 4.6 fixes that.

Re: DP + Waves; MAS vs AU
So does that mean there is no reason Waves should remain MAS? If it switched to AU for DP, it would have better support, as Cerberus indicates that MAS represents such a small percentage of users. If it was the AU version, it would be part of a larger group. Thus, better chance of Waves fixing the bugs with their plugins.

Re: DP + Waves; MAS vs AU
I agree. This is why I hate them so much. Regardless, no other compressor sounds like RenComp. The fact remains that they DON'T care about their MAS user base. When I spoke to them about this problem, they expressed no interest in fixing it, but rather told me to just use a 512 buffer size and get over it. Yes, this is why I HATE WAVES.
But, perhaps if we could use the AU version, this would not be an issue. If MOTU would remove the Waveshell AU block, maybe this would work.

Re: DP + Waves; MAS vs AU
I haven't had any problems with Waves on my G5 changing buffer settings. I go down to 128 when adding VI parts and back up to 512 when doing everythign else. I'm using the MAS version. I have the Broadcast and Production bundle and no problems with any of them.

Is the problem just with Renaissance plugins? I know it's a common problem. Waves confirmed this problem, just as they confirmed their apathy toward it.

Let's say you are in buffer size 128.Originally posted by hammerman:

- open one of your projects with Waves plugins
- don't hit play
- check one of your plugin. Are settings ok?
- hit play
After hitting play all settings are back where they should. That's how it works for me. But if you open a project and save it before hitting play, all Waves plugin settings are gone.
Somehow DP doesn't update Waves plugins before playing a song.

Problem includes at least all Platinum plugins.Originally posted by jr213:

Change buffer setting, hit play, stop. Your settings are where they should be. This is not such a bad thing as some people say.

Re: DP + Waves; MAS vs AU
if my buffer is at 128, play or stop as much/little as i want, every time i open the plugin to edit settings, they are all at zero. only way for them to stay is to leave all active Waves plugins open. Not to mention, when i enter a numeric value and hit enter, i have to click on the slider to make it actually go where i told it to go. Oh yeah, that's what fixes it for me (not start/stop) - to click on a parameter, then all settings for that instance go back to where I set them.
BOTTOM LINE: This is WAY too much BS for these plugins, ESPECIALLY for what they charge for them.

Interesting. I was thinking of getting the small ren maxx package for my home setup. Should I avoid waves and go for the wave arts trackplug? I have the sony oxford plugs for PTLE but no dynamics package for DP.

Re: DP + Waves; MAS vs AU
For whatever it's worth ... been using DP + Waves (Masters, Restoration, & Native) for a long time. No troubles, except for the occasional annoyance of not being able to directly key in a value ... have to mouse a slider in those cases.
And ... this is of course different for every individual human animal ... my ears say that the Waves plugs produce the best sound, in the end. So I paid the price, and I'm not unhappy.

Zobo,
I just purchased the Ren Maxx bundle yesterday and it seems to be working flawlessly.
Of course I have only used the plugs on a limited basis so far, but they seem the be doing the job.
