Yeah, I saw that the other day and was horrified, and made a mental note to research carefully before buying a new Mac.
I meant to bring it up here as well, but forgot. Maybe the members of this forum will have a less panicky response than the ones on Gearslutz.
My guess is the next models up for a revision are the iMac and the Mac Mini -- probably around May or June.
Based on what appears to be a trend to back away from the non-TI chips in higher-end models but keep them in the lower-end models, my guess is that the Mac Mini's will use these problematic Firewire chips, as will all but the 24" iMac.
So far it only seems to affect MacBooks and MacBookPros, but that is probably due more to the release cycle than anything else, as the Mac Mini and iMac both utilise much of the same technology as the notebooks.
