Pain-in-the-butt problem still unresolved. Aaaargh!

Post by chamelion »

I have a problem with my MacBook that has so far thwarted all attempts to resolve. Given the choice, I much prefer tapping the pad to click, rather than using my thumb on the regular click key. The problem is that when I select the Tap box in system prefs, typing text becomes a nightmare. For no apparent reason the cursor will suddenly jump to some random point in the text, usually in the middle of a word somewhere, and continue until I look at the screen and realize what's happened. Then I have to undo, re-locate the cursor, and start that section again. I have the 'ignore accidental trackpad input' box checked, but the demon still strikes, even when I'm typing slowly, and with great care.

My only workaround is to go to System Prefs, select 'Keyboard and Mouse', uncheck the tap box, and then quit prefs, whenever I'm typing text, and repeat all that to check the box again for normal browsing - all of which is a royal pain in the butt. My question is, is there a way assign a keyboard shortcut to automatically perform the above sequence of events? In an ideal world, my first choice would be for Apple to get its act together and fix the problem, which is well known and roundly cursed by other Unicornies. My second choice would be some kind of programmable shortcut. Other that that, I guess it's just another day in paradise. :)

Any and all suggestions gratefully accepted.

Geoff
