Favorite folder info

Since I hardly use Apple Loops and Garageband Instruments, I didn••™t need them in my Favorites window. According to MOTU tech support to remove Apple Loops from the favorites list, you need to go to Library>Audio and remove it from there. He wasn••™t sure how to remove Garageband Instruments from the list. But I just went to Library>Application Support and moved the GarageBand folder. That seemed to take care of it.

The folders in that list are saved in the MachFive preference file. Go to your user's Library/Preferences folder, open the com.motu.MachFive2.plist file (using the Property List Editor app installed with the OS X Developer tools, or with a text editor like TextWrangler; note that you can't use TextEdit to open the .plist file, though this is true of any .plist), and look for a property called "Folders".

- If you're using Apple's Property List Editor, double-click in the Value column to select all of its text. Command-C to copy, then paste it into any text editor (you can use TextEdit for this). You'll then see a bunch of "Folder" entries, which you can edit as desired. Command-A & command-C to select & copy all, then paste it back into the Value field in Property List Editor. Save the file.
- If you're using TextWrangler, just open the .plist file and look for the Folder items you want to edit.

It sounds complicated, but it's really only a few steps of mostly copying & pasting.

Actually, it looks like that list only saves the folders you've added to the list; the default folders, like Apple Loops & GarageBand instruments, aren't in that list so the above method won't work for those.

Yeah it's weird they don't give you the delete button with Garageband Instr. and Apple Loops. Do I smell a MOTU/APPLE marketing scheme perhaps?? Maybe I'm just imagining things.

You're imagining things

. The Garage Band / Logic instruments folders are just automatically detected when the app/plugin starts. That's why it's never saved: it can change and it doesn't always resides in the same place depending on the versions of the software and the installation pathes.
