Upgrade to 10.5.2 Sleep Issues - HELP

Post by robstudio »

Hi all,
I wanted to post this as it wasn't apparent to me. I sleep both my intel and ppc macs. After applying the 5.2 update (using the combo... thanks folks!) both machines regularly kernel panicked coming out of sleep mode. A search at apple revealed that PRAM must be reset after the update to avoid sleep issues. (cmd-opt-p-r, when booting... most macs...) .

EDITED for clarity

Hmm.... that worked for a day... back to kernel panic when awakening from sleep.... any ideas ????
Regards, Rob

Thank you for the heads-up, Rob.

It sounds to me like it'd be worth resetting the PRAM after this update regardless; surely there's a chance other apps/functions could also be affected? :?

Hi Monkey Man & all,
Most welcome ;) I re-edited my original posting as I may not have been clear. I thought the issue went away, posted, but it has returned on both machines. That will learn me for posting at U-nation without a thorough testing  Searches at apple and on the net, combined with personal experience on both my intel mac and ppc, lead me to conclude that this sleep issue is widespread with the 5.2 update... I've never previously had an issue sleeping my mac... bummer.. I always use sleep, having been on windows previously (... audio cards disable sleep on pc's...) I was always jealous of the mac being 'ready to use' at the click of a mouse. Now the decision, do I revert to to 5.1 ... which will take me all of 20 mins or wait and hope apple releases a patch for this. I really like the return of my grey menu bar, the dock list options and the networking improvement but my need for sleep may override this.
Regards, Rob

Anyone here getting 5.2 to sleep and re-awaken WITHOUT issues ???

I don't use sleep on either of my audio machines (but they're still stuck on 10.4.11 anyway). On my iMac (10.5.2, not used for audio), sleep works just fine ••“ no kernel panics.

Kind regards.
