DP install question
Quick question for someone.
I'm sitting here ready to install DP on my new MacPro. I put the install disc in and right away notice it said Ver. 5.12. I don't want to start at 5.12, I want to install 5.11..... So I went to MOTU.com and logged in and went to "downloads" and there 5.11 was. BUT, it said;
"This update requires a previous full install and authorization of Digital Performer 5.0 or 5.01 from the original installer CD."
If I don't have a 5.0 or 5.1 installer disc, what are my options to get running on 5.11?
Suggestions please (and don't start by asking me "Why not 5.12?"). I just have my reasons.
Thanks in advance..

for me, anytime I've installed DP upgrades in the past it leaves the original app in tact. so even though i've upgraded from 5 up to 5.12, I still have DP5.app, DP5.11.app, DP5.12.app
My guess is that motu does this to ensure you'll never lose access to old projects/plugs/instruments when you upgrade.
So I believe you should be able to install 5.12, then download and install 5.11

OK, I need to bump this because I emailed MOTU a week ago (as per Frodos suggetion) with the simple question of could/would they send me a 5.11 install disc. or can I install 5.12 ( which is what came with my upgrade ) and THEN backgrade to 5.11 via their website download link. Well I haven't heard a word back from them and I'm gettting tried of waiting on they ass,,,,,,.
SO once again, does anyone know (for sure) if I can go ahead and install 5.12 and then go back and download 5.11? If so, should I then trash 5.12?

My problem with this is that I upgraded from 3.11 and I'm now on a new computer which has no MOTU apps on it at all. I have no 5.0 app to upgrade to 5.11 from. Thanks for the suggestion though.BallPein wrote:for me, anytime I've installed DP upgrades in the past it leaves the original app in tact. so even though i've upgraded from 5 up to 5.12, I still have DP5.app, DP5.11.app, DP5.12.app

Did you mail the right dept? Replacing a disk is a customer service issue (i.e not a tech support issue). That email address for customer service is upgrades@motu.com -- at least that is what it was when I wrote them in May. They usually got back to me within 12 to 24 hours.whonozz wrote:OK, I need to bump this because I emailed MOTU a week ago (as per Frodos suggetion) with the simple question of could/would they send me a 5.11 install disc
Best of luck.

OK, I just called customer service and they no longer have 5.11 installer disc but they said I should have no problem installing 5.12 and then going to MOTU's download link and getting 5.11.emulatorloo wrote:Did you mail the right dept? hi,
just yesterday i downloaded the 5.11 "update" from motu.com as i also was provided with an installer-disc for 5.12. starting point was a fresh install of 10.4.10 and fresh install of 5.12. i just installed exactly as the CD version. i entered my key-code, put in the original CD (with 5.12) for auth and everything was set up correctly. still this does overwrite additional files like the MAS plug in files and the other components (reverted to 5.11 versions). i used a new target folder to install 5.11.
eventually im running the 5.12 "framework" (plugins etc.), but have the 5.11 and the 5.12 app in the DP folder.
in regards to 5.11 vs. 5.12:
i started using DP with 5.12 (coming from logic) and it was ok. finally a DAW and not a toy.... i quickly came across the time stamp and device group bugs and found that to be very annoying. after searching/reading unicornation i decided to move back to 5.11 which in IMHO feels more stable and for me does not miss any of the additional 5.12 features (which all of them do not seem to be a "must-have" besides the DAE support, if required). waiting for the next patch- or minor release level on my end....
regards,
tim
