Using a "Blackface" ADAT as extra line inputs via

Post by jowtown »

I may have a session coming up that will call for more than the 8 ins that the 8 pre provides. (7) mikes on drums, bass - and then - I still need tywo more for the keyboards.

Looking to plug -10db line level inputs into the ADAT - litepipe out ---> to Litepipe into the 8 pre - then in along with the other 8 pres via Cuemix and the FW to Logic. Should be doable in theory.

The question is: obviously the blackface ADAT's are 16 bit - which means the whole session has to come down to the 16 bits. Will the ADAT litepipe IN autodetect or dither down to the 16 bit word length ? If so it's a no brainer. If not - I am probably out of luck.

Can anyone comment ?

Not sure about the mixed bit depths, but I'd say you could try clocking the 828 concerned to the lightpipe in, rather than having to employ a WC cable if indeed the 828 has WC.

Just a thought. :?
