RME Fireface 800

Post by sjpc0 »

Hey Folks
This goes out to RME Fireface 800 users out there. The RME user group is pretty minimal at present and I admit I am having a hard time making sense of the manual or the whole Total Mix layout.

One issue I haven't been able to solve is using the number 1 Instrument input on the front. Whenever I plug into that input I can hear my instrument whether I record enable it or not. I can't control its monitor level in DP either. On the Total Mix page it is coming through the same output as my speakers.

Any advice. I'm also looking for a lot of general info about this interface. It sounds great and I'm sure it is user friendly once I understand the concept but the manual has been no help.
Thanks

open up fireface mixer and select the under view, the button for all "inputs".

Mute the input channel which offends.

That's the way it behaves. The Total Mix is unaware of what DP is doing in regards to recording etc. so when it's not muted it will pass the signal through no matter what you're doing in DP. Unfortunately this is a Mac Problem because there's no protocol like the ASIO direct monitoring that our PC brethren have - which integrates directly into the DAW and gives you latency free monitoring which does mute etc. like you'd expect with analog gear.

There's lots of ways to work around it, the Total Mix is incredibly flexible. I brought my Behringer BCF2000 out of retirement to control the total mix and it works fantastically (is that word?). You can setup a global mute so when you want to mute all your inputs (ie. when not recording) you just hit a single button. It's also handy not having to dive back to the total mix page (which takes up almost a whole monitor screen) all the time to make adjustments.
