Great Version 2 "Spot-the-Difference" Competition

What's changed...?
January 2005:

July 2007:

Any wild speculation as to whether "Instant Stretch" in the Keygroup panel has made it to release? And where's the phone jack?

There was a class act lawuit against MOTU because of that.
The phone jack on screen resulted in hundreds of broken computer screens.
A lot of people tried to force their headphone plugs into the screen.

I'm really intrigued by the Record & Play buttons in the upper right corner of the display.

Is this just for resampling or can you record audio-in like a 'real' audio editor?

hrmmm....

This is a stop button, not a record button. It starts and stops all the loop parts currently loaded in MachFive. (red doesn't seems like a good color for a stop button, I agree)

I am surprised the pipes feeding the samples from the browser to the sampler have not been made a larger diameter - this would surely be one of the simplest ways to reduce load times - although I guess there may be more pipes hidden underneath the GUI that we can't see.

I think I'll have a look on youtube to see if anyone has taken their machfive apart.

of course, another sampler/editor that doesn't actually sample/record.

fooey, maybe not as dreamy as i'd hoped.

Normally, I'd be responding to this asking you what your host program was for - if drag and drop is now universal (?) I can't see this as being too much of a problem. But this version's stand-alone too, so it'd be nice if there was a dedicated way to create new samples. Me? I'm happy with recording in Pro Tools...

Oh, and I just noticed the misspelling of "Envellopes" on the new version. Sloppy.

That is a Spanish version of M5. And it is pronounced "EN-VEY-YOPES"

Sorry, I was jokkinge. I did like the particularly francophone typo on the Jan 2005 version though. Wonder if all the spelling mistakes in the help files will be sorted in v2?

and there's still only 3 of them. what is this, 1999? motu doesn't seem understand that we are serious people doing serious work that requires serious horsepower.

I, for instance, just put a new carb on my G5 to hold me over until I get a new machine. it's kinda loud, but it kick ass now.

Well, as you know, the Internet is a series of tubes, and if you fill those tubes up, the Internet gets full. So they had to take all the available tubes and use them on the Internet. MOTU however, lobbied hard, and managed to keep their three tubes, so we should be grateful. Someday when the Internet tube crisis is solved, MachFive will be allowed to have additional tubes.
