MOTU devices "cutting out" problem resolved !

Post by ua-flamenco »

All,

Yet yesterday I had "cutting out / clicking / popping" and whatsoever problem with my MOTU Traveller, which I recently bought, on rather normal notebook MSI L745.

I tried several different cables, but the problem has not been resolved.
The only reason I had for cutting-out - my MSI is equipped with 4pin FW 1394 connecter. The MOTU - with 6-pin one, and also 6-to-6 FW cable was included into the original MOTU package. I had to use 6-to-4 cable, similar to ones used for DV-cameras.

Today I bought PCMCIA Card Adapter with even 3 6-pin FW connectors, supporting 100/200/400 Mbit/s bitrates (one of http://www.cliptec.com), i.e. any possible FW-transfer bitrate according to the FW specification.

I used standard cable from MOTU package and everything worked well !!!

So, let's not blame Windows XP, FireWire cables etc.
Just use the right adapter installed into your PC and the original cable,
and that's all !

If it does not work, change your adapter as MOTU producers warns that some IEEE 1394 chips (of NEC etc.) may be incompliant with the MOTU products.

Has this approach worked for anyone else?
