new dp user with 2 questions

Post by OTREVOR »

Hi guys:

I‘m a new DP user from Mexico, I have a G5 with the operative system 10.3.9. I‘m a composer and I work like a composer asistant, so this guy is starting asking me some questions, and besides I can read the manual, some times an extra hand would be great. 8)

:?: So, I have 2 questions that I really appreciate you can help me to understand and resolve:

1. I have a lot of MIDI drum loop files (xxxxx.mid). The problem here is when I want to preview them on the finder I listen just a piano sound instead of drums. What can I do for listening with drums sound as it most be?

2. I have many different notes in the piano roll (example: A4, Bb3, C4) and I want them all to be on the same note by dragging them on the piano roll (example: to F4) at the same time. so how can I do it all at once, instead of one by one? :P

In Response to #2
Turn MIDI Edit on in the graphic editor mini-menu, then select all your notes, then hit the good key on your keyboard

Thanks soooo much for your answer. It worked like a charm.
The only thing is that I don‘t see any place where the MIDI Edit status marks "on" or "off". Is this normal?

Ok. Now, about question 1... :)

As for your first question, the drumtrack in your MIDI files might not be assigned to MIDI channel 10

Ok. But the thing is that there‘s no indication such as a check mark or anything. The only way is to select MIDI Edit and then guess if it‘s turned on or off. (I have DP 4.61, by the way)

They are purchased MIDI files. They came with the Larry Seyer drums.
Is there a way for me to check if they were assigned to MIDI channel 10?

Do you mean that they should have been assinged to MIDI ch. 10 "at the factory"?

Or where would I change the settings from the finder to be able to preview the drum sounds? I THINK they play QT, right? If so, where can I change the QT settings?

Thank you so much for your help.

Cheers

When you opened them in DP they should be assigned to MIDI CH 10 which is the channel for general MIDI Drums.
If you have a PC, try http://www.gnmidi.com/ which is a nice app for MIDI batch processing. if not I don't of any for mac but it's probably out there.

You can also manually change the channel of all your files in DP. Look for sound selection command in the command window. you can assign it to anything you want and from there it should pretty fast to simply select all and change to channel 10
