Moved iTunes Files; Program Can't Find 'em

Post by npatton »

I recently moved my iTunes files to another internal disc. I went to preferences and changed the location. The files are all there. But any time I click on a song title, I'm told that iTunes can't locate it and I'm given the option to find it myself.

Not a problem, except I have over 8,000 files in my library. (And yes, they're all legal! I used to work in a CD store with a pretty good employee discount...) The help files and links to Apple's website have pretty much described what I've already done.

I just need a way to point iTunes to my library. Any ideas?

Using iTunes 7.1 under MacOSX 10.3.9.

Thanks!

Try User Library> Music> iTunes

Inside that folder you'll have

1. iTunes DATA file
2. iTunes Music Folder containing mp3's (organized)
3. Previous iTunes Libraries folder (containing other DATA files)
4. Album Artwork folder
5. iTunes Music Library xml file

Moving system items can be a majorproblem when you update the OS or an Apple program. It is, perhaps, the biggest cause of system problems on the platform! I wouldn't move them if you can help it.

Thanks guys. I'll have some time later today to try a few more things.

I moved my files before with nary a hickup, but that was in an earlier version of iTunes. When I followed the same procedure this time, it all glitched up. I wanted to move my files because my library had almost maxed out my 60 Gig drive, and I wanted to use that drive for Stylus RMX (which just arrived the other day!). So I moved it to a larger drive, only to find my current problems.

I'll let you know how things turn out...

Thanks again,
