Overly bright highs

Post by nor »

Hi••”

I'm using DP 4.61 and I'm always having trouble with the program's provided fx. I get really bright highs when there is a high, bright sound: for example, when a singer anunciates an "s" it comes over with a strong hiss when reverb is added. There is also a high ringing when the reverb decays. The "s"'s are really prominent in the mix, even with fx turned down low and eq adjusted. I know I should get my own plug-in fx, but money is really short right now. Is there a common way to correct this otherwise?

Hope this isn't a dumb question, since it must be a common problem.

Thanks,

Are you talking about de-essing?

Check this link out for more info:

Read up on de-essers.

You can use DP's Masterworks Compressor if native plug is all you can afford. Otherwise, perhaps seek third party options (Wave Arts' TrackPlug handles this well without breaking the bank).

You can also try to low-pass EQ the annoying frequency. Or notch it out. Use Masterworks EQ to do this.

The solution may be to routinely keep the sibilants under control as you're recording. It can save you a lot of grief down the track.

Cheers,
