Colortone Update

Post by electropoet »

Hey Y'all,
I'm looking at purchasing Tritones Colortone as I want something subtle to warm-up my 2-bus...but I read that initially it was crashing DP quite a bit. However, in more recent posts I've seen some people saying they've been using it quite effectively...hoping some of you guys can chime in with your experiences with this plug so far. I'm using DP 5.11 and OSX 10.4.8 and everything is pretty stable...don't want to add anything that might screw it up. Thanks. Scott

I'm not running the latest version of pluggo, which may or may not be good. But, I have decent luck with color tone. Have you tried it? You can at least download the demo to see if it does what you want it too. I like using the low pass filters on certain trashy electric guitars to get rid of the high end. Works really well. I think the pluggo stuff in general is a little sketchy overall in terms of stability though. Actually, I think computers in general are a little unstable (shocker)! On the other hand, Vintage Warmer can give you some nice thickening, warming, distortion fxs and seems pretty stable. I think you can demo that as well.

Mine is working fine, but if you don't have it already, ask to get the serial number protected version as their challenge/response protected one can break leaving you with a background beeping noise until they can get back to you again. It's no fun... I went through that. You have to send a text file to an email address then have them send a file back and import it... it's weird.

Having no problems here other than the challenge/response thingy that James mentioned. I emailed them for the serial number protection version so hopefully I will get that today.

Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna stay away from Colortone for the time being...don't really want to mess with pluggo. btw-I'm digging the Character plug-in with TC Powercore and have demoed the Vocal Enhancer Plug-in as well and really like it...just need something with some warmth so I think I'll opt for PSP VW...haven't demoed it...can you warm something without compressing it? Thanks. Scott

For what it's worth it seems to work fine. I mean I can see your hesitation... but the Pluggo thing hasn't caused me any problems that I can see. It's a well behaved plug-in.

Same here. The only issue I had was the challenge/response scheme. But hopefully that won't be a problem anymore with the serial number scheme.

I just dug up the email from TriTone Digital when I had the problem. Here's the reply from Damon with explanation of why the challenge/response breaks:
This is an apple security bug wherein the system logs you in behind the scenes as the "root" user. This breaks your authorization. I will have Salvator send you a serial number based version ASAP!
So if you're a registered user, write to support@tritonedigital.com and let them know you want to get a serial number version of the plug. They'll verify your registered status I think, then send you a link and your serial number.
