Anyone using Firewire 800?

Post by Tim »

I'm about to put together a couple of removable drive bays, and wonder if I should move up to 800 from 400.
Does FW 800 work well, or more importantly, better with DP?

working great here with a DP 1.25 G4 and two Lacie Drives chained to each other on the FW800 Bus... very fast... Not sure about G5's... can anyone pitch in with FW800 on G5's ? I've heard it's not so good.

Using LaCie FW 800 on G4 Dual and G5 single processor, for music and DVD productions.

No worries here.

Can you use MOTU hardware with Firewire 800? Could you use say a couple/few MOTU896's for tracking and or mixing through the MOTU units? I assume it would be a great benefit if you can. I assumed that the hardware does not work through the new FW800.

Anyone?

I'm using a laCie Firewire 800 for Streaming VI's. i have Mach5 and Ivory etc on it. Seems pretty good, although Ivory has a little trouble keeping up if I'm banging some big voicings fast (like in latin/jazz music). Maybe I need some more RAM?

I wonder if track count and/or performance is better with FW 800.....

I imagine performance would be better with a FW 400 audio interface with the FW800 drive being on a seperate bus.
