FROM WINDOWS TO MACINTOSH
Hi, I have a MOTU 2408 MKII and MIDI Express XT. For years I have used PC Windows based system, but now I want to change to Macintosh. MOTU's tech support told me to buy a PCI-424e card, but I also want to know which software will fit best with the new MAC models. MAC technicians have referred to me the new MAC PRO system. Which software fit best? with theMOTU? (I want to avoid any compatibility trouble here)

Since Digital Performer is made by MOTU, it works great with the MOTU hardware. Integration is top-drawer.
DP 5.11 seems to be working very well on the new MacIntels. I have an older PPCMac and so have no first-hand Intel experince to share, but most UnicorNation members with the new machines report excellent stability. Just get plenty of memory and additional drives for audio and VI's. The MacPros' speed, multiprocessors (DP is multiprocessor-aware), and ability to use four internal SATA drives make it an excellent choice for audio work.
One bit of advice that is much easier to use before you install all your software on your new machine: partition your drives to allow reformatting of partitions without having to erase drives entirely. I would make this recommendation whether you are a Mac or PC user working with audio.
Good Luck, and don't hesitate to lurk and/or actively seek info at this forum; there are a lot of experienced DP'ers checking in here every day.

You are eligible for a competitive upgrade to Digital Performer from Audiodesk, which came with your 2408.pschmailinglist wrote:MAC technicians have referred to me the new MAC PRO system. Which software fit best? with theMOTU? (I want to avoid any compatibility trouble here)
Best price on that I have seen is here:
http://www.audiomidi.com/Digital-Perfor ... P7928.aspx
$329.00
Just a personal note -- all my friends who have switched from Windows to a Mac have one regret:
WHY THE HELL DIDN"T I DO THIS YEARS AGO?!?!?
---------------------------------------------------
ON EDIT -- P.S. It is a little tricky, but the abbreviation for Macintosh is "Mac" not all caps MAC. I know this sounds nuts but I have seen people get really agitated on some forums about this. And you know how crazy the internet can be.
PC I know is all caps, but I think that is because it is abbreviation for two words, P ersonal C omputer. Whereas "Mac" is just chopping off the front of a word!
. .oh well. . .welcome to this forum and feel free to ask any questions you would like!

Welcome to U'Nation, pschmailinglist!
Ditto to what the boys said; don't hesitate to post should you have questions.
You won't regret the switch, no doubt.
Hope you remembered to say goodbye to conflicts and viruses.
Make yourself at home.
Do watch out for the wildlife though; it can confuse a Unicorn at 30 paces.
