mac spectrum analyzer?

Post by donbray »

I was visiting a friend who uses adobe audition on windows. I found out that it has a really great spectrum analyzer that proves to be a very useful tool.
My question is does anybody know of a good mac spectrum analyzer? I'd prefer one that you can make really big so you can see the details. The few I've found seem to be a static size that you can't expand.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

By all means, the best one is SpectraFoo from MetricHalo, but cost some 400 $ basic version, and 800 $ complete.

Demo versions are available on their site.

Audacity is free and gives a spectrum analyzer, for real time the old project audioxplorer gives interesting results.

Thanks & one more question.

Wow it's amazing. Replies from France and Italy and somewhere else all making their way here to snowy old Canada so quickly.
Thanks one and all.
One question about Spectrafoo. Do I need the basic or full version. I'm going to use it to make eq decisions from time to time and to compare mics to see what they do with different frequencies. I don't trust these old ears.
Thanks again

The basic SpectraFoo offers an extremely accurate and reliable analyser.

You can choose integration time, even very long ones like 15sec.
You can choose from octave to 1/24 octave definition.

It can display 4 analyses at once, in 4 colours.

When I need to read 2 at once, I just insert a +10dB trim somewhere in the second audio path.

The complete version offers other tools like recording for time alignement and other stuffs.

Hi donbray !
Your ears are one of your best music parts and investments, so is your heart. Treat them faithfully and kindly.
A good analyser will help in sharing what belongs to each, music and physic, whatsoever.
