Entourage Pictures

Post by johnnytucats »

I'm having a problem with spam messages with pictures in the mail body. The pictures are loading even though I've got that preference turned off. I've trashed all the prefs I could find, repaired permissions, rebuilt the Entourage database, had 3 cups of coffee, and the thing STILL loads the friggin pictures.

The spammers know I'm here. Help!

Sounds like you may have missed a Mac OS security update. I would IMMEDIATELY access Software update and get up to speed in the OS -before you infect someone on a PC or experience some malware.

Also, check your plst's (user/library/preferences) for folders of zero size (sort by size is a ffast way to do that) and see if you have oddball folder names which are empty. These (I am told) are attempts by malware and virus to run programs on your Mac. Just deleete them and don't worry. I still get them (just deleted about a dozen this morning). While viruses are not a problem for us YET, attempts to implement them are real.

Don't be afraid. Leave THAT to FOX and CNN, et al.

Well, I've done the zero size folder search and found a couple. Updated my system.

I also backed up my email and contacts, removed any trace of office, word, excel, entourage, powerpoint, microsoft (excluding virtualpc), reinstalled, and the friggin thing STILL won't stop showing the pictures in email.

I'm beginning to think it's microsoft and not me. Can't find any reference to similar problems anywhere on the web, though.

For now I've set up my accounts to leave messages on the server until I delete them, set my Junk filter to highest, and set up a rule to delete attachments from Junk.
