828mk1 finally dies because of suicidal driver?! (winXP+2K)

Post by maista »

dear motu people,

i have to ask you for help with a driver problem (i hope).
i bought a new motu828(mark I) some years ago, and it always
worked well with my windows2000, and later on winXP. few weeks
ago it started to "get lost" in the middle of working, and the
mfwakeys.exe in win XP would report the following:

"the driver has reported a MOTU error 22.
called from "...Glue/ConfigClasses.cpp line28
Driver file: DriverHoster.cpp577"

(on win2000 the last line would end ".cpp637 errCode 00000016")

at that time, i used driver version 3.20, from 2004.
i tried to install version 3.6.6.0, but it didn't work at all.
the work-arounds with on/off switching, restarting and so on
became more useless, and clicking the motu control panel would
eventually cause severe "screens of death", completely blue or
white, forcing me even to take the battery out of the laptop to restart!

now i downloaded driver version 3.6.7.3, but already at installation
i encountered problems. after clicking all the usual OKs, the
installer started and showed (i translate from German here):

"Error3 in SetupOpenInfFile: The System could not find the path",
clicking OK, then

"Error0 in DoDriverInstallFailed: The process has been successfully finished"
clicking OK, then

"Error0 in DoWaveDriverInstallFailed: The process has been successfully finished"
clicking OK, then

"Error0 in DoMIDIDriverInstallFailed: The process has been successfully finished"
clicking OK, then

"Error0 in DoGSIFDriverInstallFailed: The process has been successfully finished"
clicking OK, then

"Your MOTUinstaller has been successfully installed, restart".

After restarting, all the motu directories and shortcuts were there,
but it would not even detect the interface when i switched it on,
and no drivers showed in the audio hardware list.

NOW - what can i do, check, delete or tune manually???
could my interface be the reason after all? does it just stop
working to make me buy the fancy motu8pre or what ?
apart from the fact that i know i should buy a Mac, i would still
be very happy if anyone could help me with my current problem.

thank you in advance,

maista

i have never had a problem with XP in 32bit mode however the 3.6.7.3 driver for xp 64 did fry both my 828mkII and 896HD. After upgrading the system to XP64 the devices would not recognize after reboot and would also no longer recognize in any other 32 bit systems. MoTU has repaired the two items (and costly ahem) but no response as to what the problem with the XP64 bit driver is. Switching back to XP32 the repaired devices work fine.
