Well I really want to get sampling my own sounds and reduce the time I spent searching for sample cd's. this question is realated to picking a nice recorder.
Is there any advice on gear to use? I know with digital recorders like the m-audio microtrack, and the edirol r09, they have high bit rate samplers. I know they write their data to compact flash, but then there are md recorders that write to a mini disk. Is there any difference as far as sound quality when it comes to sampling to a flash memory, or a disk?
Any reccomendations will be appreciated.
into sampling.

Here's where to talk about preamps, cables, microphones, monitors, etc.

Hey you.are:
Some early lo-end Mini Discs had low bit rates (12-14 bit). Sony's newer machines are indeed up to 16-bit.
The thing about Mini Discs is that they are real time whereas it may be easier to transfer files from flash memory without having to run everything in real time. I don't know if the new Sony models have a bulk dump feature or not.
Now, if you want the mother of all portable digi recorders, try this-- it's pricey, but oh so cool.

I would recommend any of the recorders with flash option. File transfer will be easier, and unless the Mini Disc makes a huge comeback, finding write Media for MDs may be a bigger challenge than flashmedia which thrives on the vast digicam market.
