DP 5.1 Install Won't boot

Post by mljmusic »

Hi,
Installed DP 5.1 on a new Imac 2.16 and it won't go. When opening a file it says it was created with a later version-?- Get an empty box and then crash. Any ideas ?
Thanks,
Jon

Try to delete the Digital Performer Preferences file (Library>Preferences>Digital Performer) and reboot DP.

Then, create a new project from within DP and tell us if that works for you first. Then, we'll sort out how to open older projects. Some Bundle rebuilding may have to be done, but we'll get into that later.

In the meantime, check out this thread:

Interesting. I had the exact same problem but with my G5. I had to revert to a previous OS version. Are you trying to install with version 10.4.8 OS X. I went back to 10.4.6 (I think).

Trashing the application and re-installing did nothing for my fix on the problem - had to revert back to a previous OS.

I think there is some weirdness with the DP5.1 installers. When I first tried to install it a couple of months ago, it would get half way through and then stop, telling me I did not have access privileges, even though I was logged on as administrator and had just loaded a bunch of other software. The only way I was able to fix it was to completely reload my OS from scratch - then it installed fine.

If you notice, the installer never asks for your password like it should - it just goes straight into installing. I wonder if this is causing some weird issues.

I had the same thing with my G5 (as I posted earlier). The absolute only thing that worked was reinstalling the OS to version 10.4.7 - I think it is a 10.4.8 bug with DP 5.1

I'm running 10.4.8 and installed DP 5.11 with no problem.

One of the first things 5.11 does upon initial opening is rescan all plugins. Maybe try removing all third-party plugs (move them from the MAS or component folder), then try opening 5.11. See if that helps.

For example, I know you have to have the latest version of Altiverb installed or DP 5.1 and higher will crash during opening.
