Traveller sound cuts out momentarily! Help :(

Post by LUKO79 »

Hi I run a Traveller on a laptop PC (Acer 1.8 ghz prooc. 1 gig ram)

every now and then my motu just cuts out and i get a loud whiny sound just ring out for about 15 seconds then it all locks back in and keeps going, the whole time the DAW doesnt skip a beat or anythinmg but the sound is cut and replaced with this whinny yhigh pitched tone. I manage to get a quick glance at the motu mixer on my second monitor and yellow writing is showing up but just for a brief split second, so i dont know what it says...

this is really sh*tting me and I have sorta been hanging off playing liev again till i sort it out... any ideas?

I read motu dont like PC's and their drivers are shizen... could this be the problem? someone else mentioned different sample rates, say between itunes and ableton, or sound forge and ableton, but then i checked and i still get the same problem even when i have only ableton open and playing!

Please help as it stands I cant use my traveller for live gigs, and that leaves me borrowing sH8T m-audio gear for my live performance!

I am about to sell this piece of sh*t that was sold to me as "The best soundcard on the market!" ..........what a load.

1-try with another firewire cable ( a short one)
2-look at the chipset on your firewire card , must be Texas Instrument. If not , buy a PCMCIA with TI chipset.
3-disable all that you don't really need in Windows...

OR

try with another interface or buy a Mac

hey mat ethanks for the reply

I have the shortest possible firewire cord, I use a 4 pin to 6 pin cord so I plug straight into my Acer on board 4 pin firewire slot.

Windows running extra stuff - altho it doesnt really - shouldnt give me these drop outs

itunes, soundforge...

Did you check the chipset on your Firewire card? It needs to be TI or Lucent.

Also have this problem on my Acer laptop. Seems to happen when the hard disk is being accessed. Any ideas?!

hmmm - i ended up reinstalling the sound card which seemed to do nothing...and finally did a system restore - which has worked although to be honest it dosent seem to able to handle quite as much as it did when it was in its "prime" - its breaking up a little - not in the same way- more like a buffer issue i think. really not sure what thats all about. I think it may have been a game that was installed on the computer - it possibly changed some settings in the audio or video departments that was messing things up. thats all i can think of.
hope that helps? :?

system restore as in roll back the computer to a few weeks back - when it was workin well....strange seemed to make things ok then just reverted back to the problem. Just today i used a focusrite sapphire LE soundcard - all absolutely fine...dunno what the story is...also i read if you restore the factory settings on the traveler while its pluged into the mains rather than firewire it can help - i tried but nae luck....gonna get onto motu myself.

not sure if i mentioned it above, but when my problem occurs for a brief millisecond i get yellow text flash on the giu of the project mix software..

its happens so quick i can only catch the last bit which says : " .....SYNC"

in yellow

reading other problematic posts around here I would say its the same thing..
