I need to convert wmv. to Quicktime!!!
Hello, just landed a job, music to picture for a corporate client...So corporate seems to mean PC....
So they will supplying me with wmv. files that I'll need to covert to Quicktime as I only use a MAC and DP ,of course.
Looked on the Apple site, but really is taking me on a wild goose chase....I'm sure it's not difficult....Is it?
What do I need?
Thanks all!!

I have a similar need, although not quite as urgent time-wise (the first client canceled, which temporarily let me off the hook
).
Possibly supported by QuickTime Pro? I paid $20 to upgrade a year or so ago, only to have the "upgrade" rescinded with each new point release update to the non-pro app (what a rip-off!). I got tired of all the hassle so stopped trying to resurrect my Pro license.
At any rate, I tried every app on my iMac, and NONE was capable of converting a WMV file.
A quick Google search reveals a vendor that provides translation from almost every video and audio format imaginable, however. The gotcha is that the program is only available for WindowsXP and not Mac OS X:
http://www.riverpast.com/en/support/tut ... /index.php
http://www.riverpast.com/en/support/tut ... mv/mov.php
I found a lot more converters going the other direction (QuickTime to Windows Media Player), which makes sense as the former is more commonly used to produce home videos and independent films.
A more exhaustive Google search may turn up more possibilities. I don't have the time right now to follow each link to see where it leads. Hopefully there is a Mac OS X solution, and even one that is free or cheap.

I just dealt with the same problem. If you download flip4mac (windows media codecs for quicktime) you'll be able to import wmv into quicktime to save as a different format (with quicktime pro). If you use the free version of flip4mac the file will have a transparent overlay of "created with flip4mac," which for me was fine as I just send the audio back, but I'm assuming if you buy one of their other versions you can avoid this.
If you don't have quicktime pro you could try importing to imovie and then exporting as quicktime - you'll still need the flip codecs. But you might be able to get around the pro requirement.

Perhaps I'm not reading your message correctly.mhschmieder wrote: I paid $20 to upgrade a year or so ago, only to have the "upgrade" rescinded with each new point release update to the non-pro app (what a rip-off!). I got tired of all the hassle so stopped trying to resurrect my Pro license.
If you have the registration code number then you just have to go to Applications/SystemPreferences/QuickTime and type in the information and your registration is valid.
The trick, as I remember it, is to be in the Registration tab and type in the information and then drive through all the other tabs for the registration to stick.
I've used the registration code number that I originally paid for on all my internal drives and also on one of my other Mac.
The only time I have had to type in the codes again is if I had to do an archival re-install of OS X.
As I said, I hope I read your message correctly.

Try this!
Here's a program that seems to do the trick for me - converting wmv to QT.

Hope this helps.
