imac anyone?

Post by rockitcity »

I know it's only been a couple of weeks, but has anyone tried an intel imac with DP 5.1? My wife wants to use virtual instruments (Mach 5, Sample Tank, etc) with DP, and the results with her G5 1.8 imac have been underwhelming. Looking to get lower latency with virtual instruments. Not a very high track count, maybe 15-20, but want to mix in -the-box. Maybe virtual instruments don't work yet?

I would expect an imac intel 2.0 would have similiar performance to a Macbook Pro, so if anyone can chime in with your performance experiences it would be very welcome. Trying to decide if the intel imac would be that much of an improvement over the G5, or if we should just go for the Mac Pro tower. (Price is a factor. She is a singer songwriter and would not be using the machine for commercial studio work, just personal writing and composing.) Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I can empathize. I myself, a slave to the price factor, just purchased the very same machine you speak of. (RAM maxed of course)

A problem I've been having is with MOTU Symphonic Instrument. It was released as a universal binary in July, but so far, does not work with DP.
They are apparently working on a fix. (I'll cross my fingers.)

I wish I could be of more help (I'm sure someone on here can offer a little more real-world advice), but I'm pretty sure that your performance issues have to do with the plug-in sets you're using being a) not universal binaries or b) not functioning appropriately under the MAS protocol with DP 5.1.

I myself am unfortunately in the position of having to reserve judgement until all of the appropriate fixes come out.

Good luck and sorry I couldn't offer you very much help.
