DP5 MIDI Automation Vs. Logic 'Learn' Feature

Post by biv0uac »

I have not upgraded to DP5 yet (I am still on DP4.6) but I was wondering if any new automation features for DP in general have been added in this new release.

I am especially talking about the 'Learn' feature that Logic has where any knob/fader in their bundled plug-ins, mixer board, etc. can be 'automatically' mapped to any external MIDI control knob, fader, etc.

I have not really dove too deep in the console window of DP but as far as I see there are only a few MOTU plug-ins (that come with the DP package) that support such a thing and even then, it seems that it is no easy task to do this. I see that the console is very powerful in controlling external MIDI devices but, I am convinced that besides the general controls of the mixing board, any other internal control by a MIDI device is limited. It seems like I will need to use my mouse for most (if not all) MAS plug-ins (both bundled and bought).

Don't get me wrong, DP is ultimately my weapon of choice, but it seems that this area is one that I see DP could really improve.

Is there this feature in DP5? Has there always been?

Thanks!

Hey B--

I'm just starting a DP5/Logic/"other DAW" shootout. Thanks for bringing this up. I'll include it on my list of things to check out...
