Multi Processors and DP5

Post by Tinoo »

Hi all, this is my first post here, hope it won't be the last ! :P

My question is the following : a friend of mine has a Quad G5 with 4Go memory and runs Digital Performer 5 on it. The other day, I asked him to overload the processors by running many reverbs, just to see what the machine had in the stomach. After many reverbs, the audio activity panel in DP showed a full use of the CPU and stopped playing occasionally (he moved the... errrr... thingy from 80% to 99% in the Studio Setup page). But in the Activity Monitor of Mac OS X Tiger, it showed only 35% used and 65% idle. So, what does that mean ?

Any idea ?

That's my question too...

I've talked to MOTU and don't seem to get an answer that makes sense.

I know that since OSX is a 32 bit OS, apps can only take advantage of something like 3 or 4 gigs of ram.

But what about DP not being able to use all the processor available to it?
