I have an old Blue and White G3 that is still running 3.1 on OS9.1...
I have a new G5 running OSX, and am getting a little fed up with my old 3.1 limitations... I have heard (and read here) rumors that the G3 is actually capable of happily running OSX and DP 4.? as long as you don't push the computer tooooo hard... My questions are these:
1) My G3 is stuffed full of memory, so can it be a useful (i.e. could I mix a 30 track song with several inserts) on OSX
2) If not, can it be used as a stand alone synth Box using OSX for Reason etc?
3) What are the pitfalls I need to look out for?
4) I have hesitated to make the change, since it would require stripping all of the working material off the hard drive, etc. Would it be smarter to just buy a new hard drive, install everything on the Hard Drive, and then move it into the boot position on the G3, and use my old hard drive to move the files onto the new drive?
Anyone's direction on this would be welcome... I hate to throw away perfectly good machines, and they are worth more to me than on Ebay...

I have a G3 that I upgraded with a G4 board (Powrlogix), and even with that Ive been warned off installing OSX - memory, processor speed etc etc.
To be honest, Id like to go DP4 (and now 5) but Im happy at 3 - it does what I need, and works very well (and is stable) on my little Mac.
So the concensus seems to be dont bother it's not worth it - youre likely to see a fall in performance, or even worse if my reasearch into this tells me anything.
Cheers
