Setting up an Aux track with reverb?!?
I am a new DP4 user and just installed Garritan Personal Orchestra. I am loading GPO studio, then DP and everything seems to be behaving properly. Instead of using the Ambience plugin that comes with GPO studio I want to set up an Aux track with a reverb insert and send GPO through the Aux. I have fumbled through a couple of tutorials online and had no luck. One problem I am running into is both tutorials are telling me to add an "instrument track" from the Project menu. This option is not available. I can add MIDI, audio, aux and a few other things, but no instrument track option is listed under my "Project" menu. Could it be that GPO is not set up right? If someone could reply in the language of a 3 year old and step me through it, I would be forever greatful!

Allright, I read through a chunk of the manual....
I now understand that at the mixing stage I can render a virtual instr. as audio and then insert a verb plugin in the new audio track. I am still unclear how to route my exisiting MIDI track through an Aux with a reverb insert. Is reverb on an Aux track the best way to hear verb on my virtual instrumnet, or should I just use the Ambience plugin that came with GPO studio and add verb to the project at mixdown?

The short answer: You can either apply the Ambience plug-in to each individual GPO audio track you create by using it as an insert on each track. Or you can distribute one Ambience plug-in over numerous tracks via aux bussing -- wherein the reverb plugin is an insert on the aux track and you route other tracks into this aux track, thus mixing in the reverb. So, the benefit of an aux track is you can use one plug-in sound on numerous tracks.jtaubman wrote:Allright, I read through a chunk of the manual....

Sorry to refer you back to the manual, but it describes how to use aux busses faster, clearer and better than I can. Check out the chapter on Mixing, particularly the paragraph on bussing and sub-chapter on Aux tracks. The whole Mixing chapter has instructions here and there to guide you through this stuff.
Sorry. I don't mean to be dodgy. It really just lays it all out for you with illustrations and everything.
re: website -- Thanks. Yeah, all the music and sound design was mixed with DP. Most of the instrumentation including the orchestral stuff originated inside DP using virtual instruments (VIs) and samplers. The only "live" instrumentation on the site are electric guitars and basses.jtaubman wrote:Thanks for the input, I definatley need to spend more time with the manual. I'll read the mixing chapter and see what I can figure out.
...hey I checked out your site, really liked your orchestral demo (#2). Did you do that in DP?
re: The mixing chapter -- Hopefully, it'll help clear up some of the general concepts that may be unclear to you. Definitely check back if you need more specific help.
