How Many Tracks Can I Expect in DP 4.6?

Post by oceantracks »

I'm on a G5 Dual 2G. I do not plan to run more than one VI at a time, burn it to disc, then dump it. My main concern is coming from Pro Tools LE, with the 32 track limit. Do you think I can get 48 out of DP?

Thanks
Tom

You can easily double Your track count 8)

Another thing I really like about DP is that there are less limits than on some platforms.

Astia had it right but SR&BR play a part. so if your no more than 24 bit 48K no problem for the 48 tracks. If 88.2 or 96 your at the edge and you will neen very fast drives. Raptor or SCSI with 15k spins are what I use. I have a little plastic bracket that mounts in my G5 with two of these screamers in my machine. It works soooo nice.

Good luck and welcome to the other side.

Hey thanks guys. Yeah, I'm 44.1/24 most of the time so I should be OK!

I'll let you know it goes...

Thanks

I had a song running 90+ tracks a couple of years ago. On a G4 dual 1 gig machine, 1.25 megs of ram, all audio on a single Western Digital WD1200JB 120 gig drive. DP wasn't happy about it, but it ran. That was DP 3.11 on OS9, btw. 60-70 tracks is certainly not a problem. At that point, I think the main problem is the client :-)

Easily 50+ tracks at 24/44.
That's on a single G5 1.8.

I just posted this link in another thread. It's been posted before, too, but a good link is worth repeating. A guy at Sweetwater decided to find out what DP is really capable of. Read all about it.

That should tell you something about what to expect.
