Hello everyone. I am a recording engineer who used to work at HL Studios in a little country of south america called Ecuador. Currently i am in the process of building a mid-size studio in association with a long time friend and cousin. I would like for the nice people here at Unicornation (since i am a big MOTU fan) to help me in the decision of which equipments i could buy to complement what i have already bought.now here at ecuador we basically do many music genres and we also do some radio jingles. Most of this equipment i have bought through e-Bay and some are new. any one know what else i can buy that can be of good use in my studio. now have in mind that over here we dont manage BIG amounts of money. so here is what i have:
PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0Ghz Processor
Apple 20" Display
MOTU 2408 MKIII
MOTU PCI 424 card
MOTU Fastlane MIDI
Mackie SR24x4 VLZ Pro
Focusrite Octopre Platinum
Event 20/20 bas Monitors
Line 6 Bass POD Pro
Alesis 3630 Dual-Channel Compressor/Limiter
Lexicon MX100 Effects Processor
ART 355 Graphic Equalizer (Dual 31 Band)
Shure 52/57 Drum Mic Kit
Electrovoice RE20
Shure SM58
Neumann TLM 103 Condenser Microphone
Audix OM5 Dynamic Hypercardioid Microphone
Digital Performer 4.61
Bias Peak 4.1
Propellerhead Reason 2.5

Youre rockin good Man. Heres a few ideas
Mxl v69 tube mic- Cheap and good. Grab 2 for stereo room drums.
Headphone distrabution amp. rolls makes a 6 channel for little cash.
Decible meter- radio shack. Keep it under 90db Most of the time.
Fmr audio makes great affordable gear. Compressors and pres.
1 nice fender tube amp.

Thanks for the feedback. you know actually i was thinking of getting a pair of RODE's nt5 condenser mic which is roughly $400 for the overheads/room mics. what do ya think? that FMR Audio compressor looks really nice im really going to think about getting a pair of those. I havent bought headphones yet but i might be getting Yamaha's RH2C. definetly gettin the decibel meter (how could i forget??) and about the amp i have a stereo Crate guitar amp..i was also thinking on gettin Guitar Rig 2 but that i will decide later. Just one question, what do most DP user use for mastering??at once i started using IK Multimedi's T-racks, im currently using Waves masters (L2/LMB..) in the future i expect to get TC Work's Finalizer.

I am opinionated as heck. I dont like the Rode mics as they are too bright for MY taste......HLStudios wrote:Thanks for the feedback. you know actually i was thinking of getting a pair of RODE's nt5 condenser mic which is roughly $400 for the overheads/room mics. what do ya think?
The V69 is a warmer sounding mike that stacks well. The V67G is cool as well although not as clean around 400-500Hz as the V69 is.

I play around with multiband compression and mess with mixes for fun,
But I Cant get the sound im lookin for on a computer.
Neve EQ -Ampex ATR 1/2 inch deck= two of the many things I'll never have.
Alot of pro mastering guys work for around $600 per album..
With all that said ---The new multiband compressor in the UAD-1 extras is very cool.
