Anyone want to chime in on what role, if any, Apple Core MIDI is playing in this debate. Seems to me things went a bit south with the switch to OSX.

I'd actually written Motu about that very thing.
I'm curious to see if they respond.
If they do, I'll be sure to post it...for those of you
who care.
I'm sure looking at a thread like this, they don't
bother with this forum that much.

I cut/copy/paste MIDI data in DP all the time. Mutes, too.
I don't understand the basis of this.

While I will admit my system occasionally displays MIDI glitches and unexplained phantom notes immediately after editing a MIDI track, I am MUCH happier with the timing I am experiencing today in 5.1 than that I experienced in DP 4.5 and whatever the last OS9 version was. I find MIDI in DP 5.1 to be extremely functional, be it used to drive VI's, my Motif via USB or my XV88 via the 828mkII MIDI port.
Funny, it was the timing thing that moved me from Opcode's original "Sequencer", which couldn't handle more than a few track without gawdawful timing irregularities, to Performer 1.x years ago...

Pro Tools HD plus all the drives and plug ins - 25 to 30 grand or more.
That will never fly with my Chief Financial Officer (wife).
There's nothing MIDI-wise I haven't been able to do in DP. Change sections on the fly - hmm. I don't even know why I would do that. Uhh--nope, can't think of a single instance when I needed to do that.
But if you have the cash for PT and dig it - I say go for it.
