And it's good, real good! So now I have to buy it, don't I.
Damn you guys...
You have my most sincere apologies! Of course, I realize that not everyone can have everything they want, right when they want it, which is why in the case of Altiverb, I suggest letting the kids go hungry for a few weeks to help pay for it. Hey, someone has to give up something! It's the least they can do for your happiness.

Resonant Alien wrote:WOW! Wizooverb only $99! I listened to the demos on their website - it sounds awesome, especially for the price. Why is this verb not discussed very much around here? To me, it sounds tons better than WaveArts MasterVerb.
My guess is that the reason W2 is not well known is that Avid (Digi) bought up Wizoo and M-Audio (also owned by Avid, which now seems to be handling Wizoo products) doesn't seem to be promoting the Wizoo stuff much. (There are other great Wizoo product, includng some fantastic percussion VIs, Latigo, etc...)
At $99 I went ahead and picked W2 also. But with the Avid ownership, there is a certain amount of risk that only TDM/RTAS (Digi formats) will continue to be supported. I hope not. Plugins are always a risk. One reason why I shy away from high-priced plugins.
Anyway, my copy should arrive early next week and I look forward to seeing what it can do!
Best,
Babz

I received my copy of WizooVerb yesterday and have been experimenting with it for the past several hours. I'm really impressed with it, not just because the shipped IR content sounds good, but mostly because of it's import features. This is the most exciting part of convolution because it opens new doors to sonic experimentation. Of course it's nice to be able to replicate the sound of a classic hall or church, but I'm usually satisfied with the results of less intensive reverbs such as Dreamverb, RealVerb Pro, RVerb, etc. I think higher-end algorithmic reverbs do a pretty impressive job of creating natural spaces. They may not offer quite the same controls of convolution reverbs like Altiverb, but then again, similarly desirable results can be achieved with further signal processing pre or post. Convolution initially sparked my interest with it's inclusion in Kontakt 2 and as also part of Pluggo. The way it's implemented in Kontakt is awesome and it's probably one of my favorite effects to use within it, particularly because of the amount of odd choices you have to convolve your own sound with. The Tritone Digital stuff looks interesting as well for simple signal chain modeling; even ColorTone FREE offers some pleasing results.
Thanks Babz for the Noizevault link. There's some pretty sweet IR's on there. I think the best one's I've come across thus far are from
http://www.echochamber.ch which is linked on the site. You guys might want to check those out since there's 32bit versions of UAD-1 RealVerb Pro, Plate 140 and TC Classic Verb, as well as M3000 and RVerb patches (16bit I believe). I also found some more FX-based IR's from
http://prosoniq.com.

Sucka

Yes, Altiverb is amazing and AudioEase has made suckers of us all. For that I'm very appreciative.

They are a great company to boot and have always been big supporters of MAS....
Is there an audio professional on the face of the earth who could possibly argue with that?
Mr. Cliffo, I know Brissie used to have a rep. for "lagging behind", but how, pray tell, did you only manage to hear Altiverb for the "first time" in July 2006?
Are you isolated like I? (I'm so lated!).

Please don't take this the wrong way.
I'm just curious.
Still savin' the pennies myself...

One that is real interesting to me is Rayverb.
It ships as a VST.
It is sort of a convolution reverb but with a twist. You load impulses, and then you can do some editing by positioning your source in 3d space -- you know, locating your piano front to back and side to side in the room. Then it "raytraces" how your source would sound in that space. If you want you can spit out a new IR based on the calculations.
I have played w the standalone demo and it is quite interesting.
I was considering buying it for a while, and contacted audioease about whether they supported it w VST wrapper. They said yes, good relations w Prosoniq - so if a problem they would be able to work it out. At any rate, I went w WizooVerb instead. But am considering picking up rayverb now too, as I found it for 99.00 at novamusik.

I guess because I'm not a huge websurfer/gearslut etc. I bought my TC powercore back in '02 and have been getting great results with that when I use it. The other studios that I mix in are all Pro Tools, so they're usually talking about Waves, Reverb 1 etc. I usually hear about the latest software & plugins from a friend of mine who's a film director and a hobby musician.

Thanks, Cliffo. Didn't mean to "drill" you...
Only recently "got the web" (2k connection!), so all my info has pretty much come from SOS, which as you'd know, we get real late here in Oz.
Being isolated, I'm used to being last in line for pretty much everything.
What fantastic news I wasn't alone here.

Yeah, the PoCo seems to do the job.
The ER engine in ClassicVerb (got that?) reminds me very much of the Lex IR's I grabbed from NoiseVault(?) years ago. (That'd be my Lexi reference!). Having heard the similarities, I don't blame you for having stuck with PoCo for now.
Same here. Maybe next year for Altiverb.
Even with those annoying submarine beeps, it sounds damn fine.
Only someone with space to-let between their ears could argue with that.

What are the opinions about RaySpace?

Played with demo a bit... quite nice, also very low on cpu usage.

The July-Aug. Tape-Op #54 has a review of wizoo by Andy Hong
I haven't gotten mine yet so I'm not advocating - just a few quotes FYI:
"If I had to pick one desert island reverb, this would be it. "
"If I had to generalize on the "sound" of WizooVerb, it's incredibly lush while being very believable. In ohter words, it sounds great. "

Question for any Wizooverb expert that is here...
If I import an IR, like from Noizevault, I can hear it and it in the import window, but if I save it and open it in the Edit window it sounds completely different. I have tried turning off the tail, etc, but I never seem to get the original sound.
Any thoughts?

I love the stock reverbs on my TC Powercore... ClassicVerb has a really cool plate that I love to feature in my mixes. It's by far the best reverb I've heard come out of my computer.
2nd best in RenVerb (Waves) and I used to use TrueVerb almost exclusively.
The TC stuff is definitely worth the price of the card and giving up a card slot, in my world. I also love not putting a big hit on my CPU for reverbs.
Wizoo W2 vs. Waves RenVerb

For those of you very familiar with both Wizoo W2 and Waves RenVerb, how would you compare the 2 in terms of quality, usabilty, and CPU usage? Which sounds better?

I like Waves' Convolution Reverb and the Renaissance Reverberator.
the UAD-1 Realverb is pretty sweet also.

I decided to join the club and order Wizooverb W2 since I don't have anything but the stock MOTU reverb and man cannot live by Plate alone. Someday I will get Altiverb, but this seems good for now. Should arrive tomorrow.
