Do not use Spotlight to find things on your Mac — way too often it won't locate what you're looking for. Use Find in Finder but you have to know how to filter your searches to locate everything.

A much better tool is Find Any File from Thomas Tempelmann. It's shareware and can be downloaded here:
https://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/

Hold the Option key when you search and it will also search the Root. This will locate everything,

Again, it's shareware so he expects you to pay once you like it — and you will. I recommend purchasing from the App Store and not his site, however. App store purchases will be notified of updates automatically when he releases them.

I suggest you try a free third party search utility like EasyFind to look for files. Find or Search in the Finder is questionable at best. I've seen it unable to find files that are sitting on the desktop and in the window being searched. I suppose it avoids finding files that the OS doesn't want you mucking about with.

This is great, Mike, thank you!

Do we know if erasing all of the reason/propeller head files will still allow Live 11 to work, along with DP 11.01? This is important for me and I do not want to mess-up my system with an update to DP 11.01 if this is an issue! Thank you.

We can only go by what has been reported. Many of us are not having this issue at all. You need to read the whole thread.

If 11.01 doesn’t work for you, you can download and reinstall 11.0.

I have read the whole thread, it just was not clear, still. Probably because it is so early and the responses have been varied for many Folks.

Live 11 isn't going to be affected at all by removing rewire files. From what I know Ableton removed rewire from 11, and even if they hadn't it doesn't affect DAWs to be removed.

Two or more people have reported that their rewire setup crashes DP11.01, so removing it solves the problem. Of course removing it means you will not be able to use rewire on your system. IMO this is not a big deal because rewire is deprecated by Reason Studios (formerly Propellerheads), about a year ago when Reason 11 came out.

I'm not able to use it on my system although it's not crashing DP it's acting funky. Mike H is able to use it with Finale and DP though.

That is correct. In my case, it appears that Finale installed the Rewire components I needed.

Since iOS 15 came out yesterday, I decided to hold my nose, take the plunge and upgrade my iMac Pro to Big Sur. The first thing I tested was Finale to DP 11.01 via Rewire. It still works. So far, so good…

I also have Rewire components installed by iZotope Nectar 2 (but not 3) and Notion 6. Since everything works, I'm not removing any components lest I upset an applecart somewhere.

Thanks Mike, actually did not use spotlight, I used the “find” function in the finder, by pressing command F. That did not locate any propellerheads/rewire file. Been using this search function for decades, I know how to use it properly. I’ll check out Find Any File, many thanks,
Greg

+1 for EasyFind.
It's easier to navigate the filters in EasyFind than Finder/Find—if not, what would be the point?

OTOH, Find Any File can locate things in a Root search that EasyFind and Finder/Find will not. I just went searching to see if Toast 20 still installed Soundflower (yes) and what version (1.6.7) — only FAF located the latest install plus the libraries in in the Live Screen Capture package that's bundled with Toast 20. EasyFind took much longer to locate only 25 of the 37 instances and none from the current install or installer. No matter how I manipulated the filters, Finder/Find found only 2 instances after I included Show System and Invisible Files.

As for Rewire, both FAF and EasyFind found the same 95 instances. This is skewed somewhat by the fact that Firewire contains 'rewire' so both FAF and EF found 50 bunrelated files. Finder/Find found only 10 after I included Show System and Invisible Files.

Rewire support is documented in Chapter 33 of the DP11 User Guide. In what way is that "unsupported"?

I've had great success rewiring DP and Notion 6, at least through DP10 (haven't checked on DP11 yet). DP's rewire support has been pretty great, supporting transport from either app, MIDI as well as audio etc.
Propellerheads (now called Reason Studios), dropped rewire support in Reason 11, and deprecated rewire in general. It's pretty sad really, rewire was a great idea, but being (although free), owned by one company, when they no longer saw a use for it, it gets tossed.

An initial test I did with DP11 and Ableton Live 10 was fruitless, Live did not go into slave mode and DP11 did not recognize it. You can still see the rewire busses in DP though.
What Propellerheads/Reason does is pretty much irrelevant for other DAWs (many) who use rewire and work well together, other than that Reason won't produce updates. Nothing that already works should stop working (until Apple breaks it on a new OS). Presonus uses rewire as the primary synchronization mechanism between Notion and Studio One.

Unfortunately there is no other current tech that can do what rewire does. Messages (not yours above) claiming it's a virus etc are FUD and serve no one. I understand it being frustrating, and appreciate the troubleshooting, but what's the point of the hyperbole?

Just checked in DP 11.00 with Notion 6, and rewire transport sync and MIDI transfer work fine (as documented).

Thanks for that. Who knew I had so many images of a Firewire connection on my Mac without Firewire? No Rewire.

I notice that FAF does not search file contents, while EF does, although it takes a long time. It comes in handy for times (that happen more and more over time) when I can't remember the name of the file I'm looking for, but I remember something that's in it. Between the two, it looks like nothing can hide.

There's no Apple.Silicon version, and there will never be. It will obviously continue to work on running Intel systems, but it is being removed with due haste from most applications.
