Okay, I think I'm moving more in the right direction now...

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.c ... D=34516945

Maybe someone can help me get rid of the partially opaque little boxes around the fader knobs, I can't seem to figure it out. I've been using the free "Seahorse" graphic editor to do all this.

If I, not being any kind of a graphic designer, can come up with a way to make the interface more tolerable, how hard could it have been for a "pro"???????

You said it, Tripi. My thoughts exactly.

Amplidood, I really like where you're going with those screenshots. Even though I'm not always crazy about dark grey, it sure is easier on the eyes compared to white. If it was "3-D", I'd be extremely happy (relatively speaking, that is).

I know this has gone around in other threads here, but Amlidoods screenshots got me thinking about the color hack in the resources file. Are the resources actual image files like BMP or PNG, or does it just contain hex values for the colors of the images? In a past life, I worked as a graphic designer, so I logged quite a few photoshop hours. I might be tempted to start diving in and recreating the whole DP5 interface (a la 3-D), but it seems like a very big undertaking.

It's actually not intimidating at all. Most of DP's graphic elements are in...

Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Images (inside DP6 application)

You just right click on the app and choose the "show package contents" option. Compress the app in its original condition first. I don't know anything about graphic design, I'm just fooling around. I especially don't know how to mess around with the "opaqueness" of objects. All of the various elements are pretty easy to find in there.

Tripi,
Both, there's an .xml file with "default colors" that can be edited for some of the hacks. AND there's an Images folder in the same Package, with lots of .png files.

I mean come on. If you're not in Conslidated mode, each window has THREE STRIPS OF USELESS TITLE BAR SPACE. THREE. That is the crappiest window interface design ever. Sooooooo much wasted real estate. In fact, it's very confusing to the eye.

I hate the consolidated window. Imagine if MOTU eliminated the SE window and the Graphic editor window and the tracks window and made us use this consolidated window. Holy crap! that would push me over the edge and go to Pro Tools. YIKES!

Dan, you're really describing my worst nightmare. I NEVER use the Consolidated window. I hope I won't be forced into it in the future. Okay, I must go before I have a panic attack.

ha ha ha, I hate it when I am helping someone on the phone with DP and they say, "no, my window says.... blah blah blah" then I say... "OK, go to windows at the top of your screen then click on "pop out of consolidated windows".
Geez!

I also hate it when "enable consolidated editing" is UNchecked in DP preferences, yet sometimes, and I say sometimes,.... a new project will open with that stupid consolidated window... GAWD! :)

where's the cheese? I got the whine :)

You know...... i use one consolidated window set that I can't live without. I have my graphic editor pop up inside my track window on the bottom half. That way, I can keep double clicking on MIDI regions at the top while editing on the bottom. Much easier and faster than switching between two open windows. As soon as the editing is done, back to the tracks window on whole screen.

consolidated windows is no doubt a great thing for some users, but I use too many keyboard shortcuts (key commands) to go to different windows, and I am too set in my ways :) I realize that some users don't have three monitors either. What can you possibly edit or do in the tracks window except change inputs/outputs track order etc?

You can edit, loop, select and use edit/region/audio functions. You can track, audition, browse chunks, annotate, set default patch(es)... and more.

OK,
I just don't spend much time in the tracks window.
We all have different ways of doing what we do.

Okay, until I learn more about bevel shading and how to do 3d elements right, I'm going to leave it like this for a while. My eyes have such an easier time figuring out what's going on in this current setup. Anyone interested in modding DP this way can message me and I'll upload the modded files to ya. Or email at aselby@comcast.net

I still can't figure out how to get rid of the semi-opaque boxes around the fader knobs.

nice!

I like how you brightened up the colors of the mute, record,
solo and input buttons in the mixer. They are so dim in DP6.

Dan :)
