PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE try and optimize the code for Digital Performer so that it is snappier, more responsive, and utilizes OS X more like the competition. It is REALLY noticable and the only bad thing I can say about the program.

Yep, same here - Please optimize the engine and do something about the zooming in the tracks window - hand in hand! Thanks.

I'm in!

I love DP. It is one fabulous program, and additional bells and whistles are not needed. I just want the existing features to work as efficiently as possible!

Blue's right. We're just going to get spoiled like those Logic and Pro-Tools users. That'll take away our creative edge. What would we do with all that power then?

Naaa.... go ahead and spoil us, MOTU! And I'm raising the ante. I'm willing to pay for a full upgrade fee if you will give us a relatively bug-free, optimized audio engine that never sees processor spikes and doesn't click and pop. I've got my $149 waiting here... I'm itching to send it to you. Just give us the chance to be spoiled by a perfect audio engine, and my money is your money, ok?

Yes i'm also in - I think almost all 8) of us want that.

My iMac is showing it's age - harder and harder to get a decent trackcount

However Mac OS-X itself has serious drawbacks when it comes to efficiency.
Compared with Yewllowdog Linux as an example

Check these links out from two articles from "Anandtech":
http://www.anandtech.com/mac/showdoc.aspx?i=2436
and
http://www.anandtech.com/mac/showdoc.aspx?i=2520

It seems the threading model of OS-X leaves something to be desired.
The threading and processforking models implication for audiowork, i.e.
using DP, can be discussed of course - but still...

OS-X is in many respects a fine operating system but it's speed and efficiency
is very poor - it has been so from the very first incarnations.

Apple has in every new release managed to speed things up in the OS-X
and still manage to do so - which in itself suggests that OS-X is poorly designed in this respect.

but doesn't Logic and Live run in OSX also ?

Let's see...where do I start? Screw it, I'm getting Logic.

I'm in.

I just like to see the cpu meter steady with no red spikes...

Does that mean we won't have the good fortune of reading any more of your posts?

optimize please!!

new to DP, and unfortunately don't know the smooth operation of DP in os9......would love to be able to run say 10 trks with a couple of plug-ins and not get cpu spikes and glitches, etc................would feel a bit cheated with having to pay an upgrade already as my first version was 4.52....

using dual 1.25 ghz with 1.75g ram, 10.4.2, motu traveller, (DP, Bidule, SooperLooper)(all used seperately cause of cpu spikes and glitches during recording), JAck, and various hardware misers and fx and MIDI controllers

It'll handle that no problems....I wouldn't worry. The general issue here is the overall optimization of DP compared with the competition. That doesn't mean it can't achieve exactly the same quality results...cors it can!

Incidently I noticed you use Plogue and Jack. Are they together? or is Plogue rewired into DP?

Might I add that we had better keep posts like these out of this *petition* topic. I think people might complain if we clutter it with other stuff :)
