Yes my point also James, starting at $5000, crazy. This puts it in the range of people with lots of money or a company that needs lots of power. My point about the Mac Pros the rest of us have is that they are still very powerful and most of us do not need the 12 core. The only place I have yet to push my computer is rendering a 3D animation.

Yes and no Tom. Some people need speed for rendering who are not 3D graphics folks. Time really is money and if you're working multiple projects with lots of sound and picture, I don't think the high end Macs are overkill at all - as long as you can access all that speed. IOW, If I run FCP, DP and Photoshop all at once and want to bounce a 2 hour movie from DP, render that movie in FCP and work on some packaging graphics and not really think about hiccups, then that high end Mac @ $5k doesn't look so bad - assuming that the clients are paying you at a level consistent with the investment. For a person who generally is limited to just one or maybe two of those task at once, yeah, probably overkill.
I still want a damn 12 core. I also want a Maserati and a Boserdorfer imperial Concert grand ... which both come with their own onboard computers...

Exactly MLC, my talking about 3D is only an example. Rendering in After Effects can take a bit of power also,I often have a few programs open at a time moving data from one to another. If one makes a living from using it I can see getting it. Oh yes I want one also, I will take the car and the piano, too.

What if we split 'em! You have the car Mon-Wed-Fri. I have the piano Tues-Thurs and weekends, and you have the computer Sat-Sun. I think that would work out fine.
I also have to tell you, I LOVE painting this fence and wouldn't share that with anyone - it's just too much fun...
