A big concern still remains : crashes are motu's fault or Apple's ?

Each one says it' the other's, and we stay cooked.

I did not get to figure this by now.

How do you rebuild I/O bundles?

. Start DP and open your project.

2. Go to Setup>Bundles, and delete everything in the Bundles window. Close the Bundles window.

3. Go to Tracks Overview, and build new audio routings, ie: ins, outs, and busses.

4. Open the Bundles window again and Export your Bundle with a name in a folder: both bundle name and folder name should be easy to remember and easy to locate.

5. Save your project and quit DP.

6. Dump your DP Preferences:
User Library> Preferences> Digital Performer> "preferences"

7. Also, if you have the iSight Audio.plugin, move it to a neutral location or delete it altogether. It is normally found:

Mac HD>Library> Audio>Plugins> HAL>*iSight Audio.plugin*

8. Empty the trash.

9. Shut down the computer.

10. Go do something fun.

11. Boot up again and raise your buffers to 1024.

See if there are any improvements and keep us posted.

If you're not familliar with the bundles-architecture, it's probably best to read up on it. Check p. 169, and the rest of chapter 13.

I've always thought when it comes to a real-time application, hardware is the source of the most of the problems. Chinese manufacturing may introduce some technological "shortcuts" (either inadvertently or not) and it may vary from unit to unit. Of course it is impossible to test every single unit but I think that Apple doesn't have (or doesn't require hard enough) a proper test suite for real-time applications at QA point.

Ah, you meant DP bundles--yes I'm familiar with them, but dont' know how to rebuild. Do you mean delete them and re-add them them?

In bundle window, select and delete your input bundles, output bundles, aux bundles, instruments, MIDI.

In track window, rebuild every thing. Say affect inputs and outputs for each track.
OR
Add ins and outs as needed in each section of bundle window, then re-assign in tracks window.
This is better than jumping right in track window, cause you can choose wich are top-list outputs. They are the ones that you will listen thru when scrubbing or selecting sounbites.

Don't forget to re-assign aux in mixer window, and inputs and outputs in virtual racks if you have any.

Takes some times and attention but can be helpfull.

I assume you have tried

preferential treatment,
trashing DP prefs,
trashing audiomidisetup prefs
repairing permissions with disk utility,
rebuilding Launch Services Database

4ace, glad it works for you.

But what about buffer setting ?
Can you get any work done (tracking) at 256, multilier 1 ?
(Crashing here within 1 minute).

I can get some but only at buffer 1024. Such latency is musicaly unusable for me .
